Car - ke70

motor / part in question - t series drive shaft

problem - centre bracket isn't wide enough to line up with bolt holes

hey guys, was putting my tail shaft in today and hit a problem. The yoke fits in fine and the rear end bolts up to the diff fine, but the centre bracket that holds the drive shaft from falling out isn't wide enough to line up with the bolt holes.

here is the ke70 drive shaft, the bracket on this one is a bit wider then the one on the car.

what do you guys think? do i have the wrong font section?

How do you thing i can solve this problem? i really don't want to have to get a new front section if possible, was thinking of making a thick bracket to widen it out a bit, but am thinking this could be dodgy.

is there a way of swapping the two brackets on the drive shafts?( changing the the one on there out for the ke70 one)

any help is much appreciated guys!

this happened to me when i bought a new centre bearing. all i did was cut the end off the bracket so it was like an open ended c bracket. then got large washers that covered the bracket and bolted it on. never ever had a drama with it even at the track

Swap the bracket from one drive shaft to the other?
Can the bracket be removed along with changing the bearing as is the case for a celica or AE86 driveshaft?
If so, remove both and swap over. I did this for a W57 (RA60) front half, and installed the S series AE86 bracket and bearing assy.

yea i looked at doing that, but you cant get it off because there is a lip on each drive shaft that it wont fit over. i ended up fixing it yesterday, just shaved off a small section on the left of the bracket, used massive washers and lots of loctite on that side and the other side fitted fine.

thanks for trying to help tho :)

so hang on what tailshaft were you using?? ae86 front half, t18 back half? Or just a full t18 one?

Bumping up this old thread as I have the same issue. Moving all my gear from my 4age ae71 with T-series into what was previously an auto ae71. The tailshaft fit fine in my old ae71 but this one has different spaced mounts for the centre bracket. My first thought was to do as Johl suggested, but there doesn't seem like enough bracket to make it very secure.

Does anyone have any alternative ideas?

Either that, drill the spot welds and weld a fitting bracket on or get a new centre bearing put onto the tailshaft. Final drive can do it. I've had him do one for me already.
