The injectors do tick.

A bad knock, like someone hitting something with a hammer, means the motor needs to be pulled part.

well the sound has developed to be louder than how i previously remember, how much and what injectors should i be looking for ? anything else i should replace to see if it gets rid of the noise? sounds like a typewriter.

Give it an oil change, preferably thicker than what you're currently running.

exhaust leak?

throwing thicker oil isnt a good idea, find out what the problem is and fix it.

oh exhaust leak can cause this ? i think my exhaust does have a leak cos it makes a pop / backpressure noise when i let off throttle? not loud pop just minor.

I had exactly the same problem.
Had a big ass hole in my extractors. Rev it to 7500 and back off in the city at night. It'll make children cry. Mine was shooting 4 foot flames at times. Lit up some leaves on the side of the road on Nebo once...

I just took it to an exhaust shop who welded it up for about 80bucks (Gunn Perfomance)

Wasting your time trying to describe it, someone needs to hear it and see your car.

took it to DR drift today, they said was just my injectors, wonder if they make more noise over age?

You might have bigger injectors.. My 4age just got rebuilt with 4agze injectors and it now ticks, I wouldn't worry about it unless it sounds like a diesle machine gun..

maybe ? claims on the jdm sticker on cam cover of a rebuild/reco @ 149000 km's?

yeah i'm running bigger injectors on my smallport and it ticks, i think similar to what your hearing. It sounds a bit dodgy but if it worries you just get a new set

I am having a similar problem here is what's happened and what I tried to do

I have a 4AGE 16V Redtrop (small port) which is bone stock. Everything runs fine and it has power. All sensors working and doing a Diagnosis shows a blinking CEL. Only mod is a lightened flywheel by 1Kg.

One problem is that there is some sort of typewriter sound (sounds like someone is using/typing on a typewriter) after the cold start but when the engine warms up the sound is barely noticable. Haven't got a clue what's causing this.

I had check the connecting rod bearings and they seem fine, how do you know if the connecting rod bearings are broken anyway?

Opened the head checked the buckets holding the shims and some buckets are concaved not sure why. Already checked valve clearance.

Haven't checked if it's the oil pump since the sounds only there during startup after the cold start.

Anyway to know if it's the injectors?
