Hi Guys,

Don't know if i've posted this in the right area but thought i'd introduce myself and just ask a few questions.
I'm Matt, I'm a vehicle painter and my dream car is an AE86 GT Apex Saloon, i'm not fussed if it's a Levin or a Trueno though as they are both beautiful.
I'm looking to move to Melbourne in the next few months and I really want to get myself a JDM AE86, (i would have had one over here already as I was going to swap my Toyota Starlet Glanza Turbo for a AE86 GT Apex but the bloke pulled out last minute:crying: ) so was just wondering how do you go about importing one and what are the costs and regulations for complience and stuff so any help and info would be amazing.

Cheers guys:))

welcome, your talking about importing one into aust right? it can be cheaper in some situations than buying one here, you just have to know what your doing, first you need to find the car, www.tradecarview.com is a great place to start, then you'll have to look through this page and go from there http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page.cfm?u=4371

cheers.

ah cool, yeah i'm looking at importing one from japan to australia when i get there. Whats the ruling on complience though as it's likely to be before 1988 and don't the rules change for older cars?

hi, umm not looking good, i searched the SEVS website http://www.raws.com.au/SEVSRegC.asp?fs_Make=&fs_Category=&fs_PerPage=20&fs_Sort=&fs_Direction=&fs_Page=7#results for a list of importable vehicles, the ae86 wasnt on there, im just going off that, they may still be importable as im sure they are, but i cant find any info at the moment about older cars.

i'm sure they are importable as i've seen ppl on here with JDM corollas but you probably have to put alot of work into but if it's possible i'll do it.
Cheers for helping us out mate:))

it is possible, theyre under the 15year old rule, but its going to be costly as our exchange rate is pretty terrible at the moment.

HiTower

how costly? lol
thats ok, r exchange rate over here is pretty crappy as well, at least your economy is doing better then ours.
Where bouts in Oz are you?

im in NSW, little rural area called the hawkesbury, good hills and driving roads, i think your best option is to buy a JDM hachi thats already here, will be allot easier and cheaper as you dont have to worry about the exchange rate etc.

realisticly ull be much cheaper getting an ae86 already over here if u want to get one from jp and brought to melbourne will cost a fortune at this time, most likely ull be looking around $9000-$14,000AUD if any more id say would be a complete ripoff even though i wouldnt buy one for that price unless was something special, if u need any help in melb i might be able to give u some advice via pm.

Hi SEXY 16,

you got that right, every new ae86 that comes up for sale over here and you think you're on to a winner, 5 minutes later it's over in Ireland. lol
fair play though, at least they will only hav decent cars over there if they keep up that trend. cool, i'll bear that in mind when i'm out there.

Hey AE86,

when you say get one over in Oz, will i still be able to get a JDM model cus i'm abit of a drift nut and i love the 4age engine as well, sounds so sweet;)
