are the carbs downdraught or sidedraught? any idea exactly what bike they are off?

they are the downdraught type, the natural state is about 30deg above sidedraught but have seen them mounted both horozontal and verticle with no apparant problems.
then i bought them from the us i was told they were 39mm off a zx9r but measure bigger?
i can measure the spacing too if you like.
