View Full Version : I shouldn't, But I did - My 3rd AE86

It was bound to happen at some point, and it has.... For sometime, I have wanted another track spec AE86, I have one already that is set up well for Hillclimbs, Track days etc.... But it doesn't drift well, and I have wanted to build a simple, dedicated drift car.

So, I picked up this shell from John84ie another local 86 nut..... He bought the car as a complete running car, and then parted it out. I was interested in the bare/basic shell. We came to a deal....

I picked up the rolling body yesterday, but the s13 suspension front end and the T series were not included and I need to give them back. Not to worry, as I am currently building a KE70 drift car, I will scrap that body and use all my parts in the new 86.
The shell is amazing. It has had a full bare respray and rust proof sealed completely. Totally straight panels, and amazing quality paint.... I have been told by countless people, that its too good to drift it.... haha, fuck that......

Here is how I got it:

The paint looks heaps better than the photos show. The pics look all washed out and the car has dirty rain on it....

Day 1:

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/1/1/319780.jpg

First was to seal the car up. Time to raid my AE86 parts stash!!!!!!!!
I picked my best pair of side mirrors and ADM tailights, and fitted them both up. Looking good already
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/1/1/319781.jpg

I started by pulling the whole Nissan frontend out. I dropped it all down, and wheeled the dirty Nissan parts away :P

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/1/1/319783.jpg

Next, I pulled my coilovers out of the KE70, and fitted them up. The coilovers are from TRD in Japan, with TRD 8kg springs, Cusco camber tops and Japanese DG-5 inserts....

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/1/1/319785.jpg

Then fitted up the engine crossmember and caster rods and brackets, and a Whiteline 24mm fully adjustable swaybar.
Next I had the fun job of packing the brand new wheel bearings, swapping Civic rotors onto AE86 hubs (for my RX7 brake kit), fitting up brand new braided brake lines and fitting up hub and rotors......

Some goodies. XT130 LCAS, New ball joints, New wheel bearings, AJPS caliper bracket, PS arms

close to it :P I cant spot any dents at all, paint looks faultless except for a few runs on the underside the ducktail, but you cant see there anyway.... High quality job.... Looks to be many hours or dollars spent by someone....

Shame I bought it as a drift car, it would make a really nice street car......

What wheels were on the front when you bought the rolling shell?

Yeah, I have noticed the head is of a differant casting to other spare heads I have in the shed. I got it from a mate, who got it from a parted out workshop built motor. "PULSE Racing" in Sydney I think it was called. Story as I know it, is that a customer paid for his motor to be built (high Hp 4AGTE). I was told the motor did a bottom end bearing in the first 500kms.... Couldn't afford to fix it, and parted out.....

I only got the head from that tho. The head was built for the turbo motor. The combustion chambers have been massively enlarged, bigger/differant valves, exhaust porting (4mm larger than stock diameter). I should be able to run higher boost..

I took many pics of the head from memory. I could proberley find them if you were really interested......

Car is all now fully wired up with the loom I made. This has taken the longest time of all, 15 hours to make the microtech loom from scratch, but its all done now... Intercooler mounted, brand new clutch slave, Radiator fitted (huge Celica GT4 rad, custom fitted with twin thermos), All Interior pieces fitted (front only). Rear half will remain stripped....

Getting close now....

Ok, Well it been quite a few months since I have touched this AE86 and it has gathered much dust. With the Accident with my gold 86, and buying the new SR20DET AE86, I have been quite busy.
Anyway, I got the shits with the SR86 last week, and my focus shifted towards the blue one.

In the last week, I have been sorting out the turbo system etc.... First, I had to rotate the turbos housings, so everything was facing the right way. Once that was sorted, I got started on working out what Speedflow fittings and braided lines I needed. (This step is hard on the wallet). Then, had the intercooler piping puzzle, but I am happy with how it has turned out :) Fitted a Turbosmart BOV and Catch can.

Getting closer!

Well, it's been a while, but I have made big decisions recently with the direction of this car.... Call me crazy..... :P :P :P
I am clear with the way I want this car now, and that is with a N/A motor with "stage 4" cams. I already have a head built for a set of "stage 4" cams just sitting here not in use.... All my 4A**s have always been turbo, and I thrive something different, and more original.... This not being a race car, I don't really even need a high psi turbo it it. Silly really :P

It will have standard Zenki bumpers with a zenki lip, top face blue, bottom half black, no sideskirts. Wheels will be 15" charcoal genuine Watanabes...... A pretty classic style look....
I am pretty sold on how I want this car...

Which means, I now have a spare 4AGTE .......

may be able to help you just a wee bit with the 4K's lack of proformance ?!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well until the heart transplant takes place. Refer photo ---- Oh ! you probably not sure what these are ! This is what in 1969 TOYOTA thought was a PREFORMANCE Package . Stunning isn't it ---- for a whole lot more ( like a real lot more ) fuel consumption , you get a wee little bit more proformance. It was commonly known as the two buckets with two holes into one manifold principle. BLOODY MARVELIOUS :P

UPDATE:

So, as some of you will know, this car is not my focus, and I just do work on it every now and then......
I pulled my finger out last friday and have made some good progress in the past few days....

I have installed my set of GReddy coilovers in the front, and I will be running the incar damperner adjuster as well.....

What I have decided to do, is to just throw a standard N/A 4AGE into the car for now, while I build the high comp forged N/A motor for it...... At least this way, I can be enjoying the car instead of it just sitting there..... Money is tight at the moment, so the built motor will still be a while off.....

So, I removed the 4AGTE....

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/1/1/524062.jpg (http://s150.photobucket.com/user/maxhag/media/Blue%2086/C360_2014-02-02-00-08-13_org_zpsab761e95.jpg.html)

I then had to prep a spare 4AGE I had in my parts stock. Its just a 3 rib 4AGE, fully re-conditioned head (little kms)...... After a few hours going thru crate after crate of Corolla/4AGE parts, I had all the parts I needed to complete the motor....

More progress in a few days....

Well, after more than a year for an update on this car, I guess its time.

I once again changed my mine with engine choice.I pulled the 4AGE out and fitted up yet a differant 4AGTE (200kw) I had lying around.....

The car is up and running and almost ready for it's RTA inspection. I had the car engineered last week. When the cert arrives and fix up a few very minor things I can take it to the RTA....

Car is running a smallport 4AGTE with a BB HKS2540R turbo (T28 size etc)..

The car is in rego spec in some of the following pics (horrible rego wheels etc) , and when its regoed, I will make it much cooler ;) I do like the look of it with the Black WORK Ewings and lower.......

Next job is to remove the horrible gauges from the dash and replace the dash with a uncracked mint one I have to go in.....

I really now need to source some good seats and wheels for it.... Not cheap :(

Yeah, it does, But ideally I want good sized 14" Hyashi Streets for this car... Those watas were just borrowed from John Carty for that show........ :(

I have just bought a set of Starsharks for it, but not really the look Iam looking for... Might put em up for sale actually

JoJo, you are good at building cars but much you are great at driving, you consistently deliver great times regardless of the car. I still need to bring the KE up for you to drive and see what it is capable of. I must admit though that the Clio Sport gets driven more at the moment.

I managed to pull off a 46.67 lap at the last round Paul.....
IF you remember lap times there, pretty chuffed with that..

I would love to test your car there... Yeah, I know how to drive that track in these types of car, so we should see what the KE can do next season ;)
