Im currently putting together my front suspension/brake gear, writing it all down so i can plan how to and what to get 1st etc.
going in a 70.

I am going to use R32 calipers all round.. ive found 2 suitable disc's up front, but this will all depend on what LCA/castor rod design i go for.. k

now i know that the 86 spindle is a bit on the small side.. just wondering what strut would be a good choice to use.. obviously having a larger diameter spindle and bigger bearings to support the larger rotational force..

ok nooob question.. do any struts affect any alignment characteristics?
castor/camber mainly i guess

i did read it somewhere but i cant for the life of me find the info i read again!

thanks in advance.

Since your brake setup will be custom, it does not matter what struts you start with. But for the sake of using common parts and a common setup in regard to shocks etc, AE86 struts are an OK choice. KE70 struts take a smaller shock, which is fine if you have good shocks that fit.

AE86 and KE70 have the small Corolla size stub axles, which I think would be fine. Most other Toyotas have the larger stub axle. To get the larger stub axle, you can use XT130/RT132 Corona struts, or RA23/RA40 Celica struts or something like that.

i think xt130 struts can use ae86 steering arms so u get power steering arms (lock!!)
and also can have RCA's (get rid of bumbsteer). They also use 51mm diameter so large range of shocks available

these have a larger stub axles and would probably take more load, more suitable for running more negative offset wheels.

something to look into and confirm that they are compatible

XT130 - As said, big stubs, fits AE86 shocks and steering arms. But has cast caliper mount, with the wrong spacing for Nissan stuff. Camber OK.
ST141 - Big stubs, unsure on shocks but a likely fit, cast caliper mounts suit Nissan spacing. Problems getting short steering arms to fit. Camber problems too (???)
RA40 - Big stubs, unsure on shocks but hazily remember they suit AE86 sizing. Flat brake mount around stub axle with mount holes in a nice rectangle, good base to mount an adaptor to. Suits AE86 steering arms. Camber OK.

Probably a bunch of others, take a walk around pick-a-part one afternoon and mix and match to your hearts content.

awsome! thanks heaps tech nuts! i would like to go something with a bigger stub A. to handle the larger rotational forces and reduce stub flex and B. to cope with larger offset wheels.

ill go down the local pick n payless and check out all the struts u guys have mentioned because im not sure of what they all look like , in regards to caliper mounts mainly..
want to keep 86 steering arms so
RA40 struts sounds the go.

BT 20V turbo.. 220 rkw.. later going to go 7a or 8ag.. and cams.. go for around 250 - 260 at the wheels

hmm fair enough, i guess r32 is enough

Wilwood narrow mount style calipers have the exact same bolt spacing as xt130 cast caliper bracket.

confused? are u saying get willwoods? or are u saying there the same mount as R32?

with this conversion i have to get the caliper mounting right and the disc as close to the LCA as possible to avoid loosing possible wheel offsets
