Hey guys, I'm in the middle of doing a w58 conversion for my 4agze sprinter and hit a bit of a snag. The clutch I have is a 212mm exedy hd with a 21 spline center to suit a 4age. Anyway my gearbox is a w58 with a 21 spline shaft but the diameter of the shaft is larger than the clutch. Went to ABS to see if they were able to change the clutch center to a larger unit but they don't do that.

So that's my problem, how do I get this clutch to suit that gearbox, is there anywhere in Melb that will modify the clutch or do I need to buy a clutch to suit a w series box that will fit inside the bellhousing (ajps) that I've got. And if that's the case, will the pressure plate still bolt up to the 4age flywheel?

Cheers

Hey,

I have had this done plenty of times at various clutch shops (in brisbane). It's simple and inexpensive (~$100) - just go to a specific clutch-only type shop, not ABS or anything like that.

Anyone in Melb able to recommend a place? Don't mind traveling a bit but south east suburbs would be best.

just buy a clutch disc for a ra23/40 or ra60 celica and it will bolt up sweet

The flywheel I've got has a slightly raised section where the clutch disk was sitting which is the same diameter as the old clutch (215mm). If I get a 225mm x 28.9mm (spline od) x 21 spline clutch the clutch will sit slightly over this area by 5mm either side, won't that destroy the clutch as it doesn't make full surface contact with the flywheel? Should I get that raised edge machined away?

Ok for future reference, an exedy TYK-6255HD would fit fine. It's a Tarago clutch but it has the right specs.

try sunbury brakes and clutches, they can build and modify any clutch. 97443438

I've just used a 225mm 4agze flywheel, a 5puk 4agze clutch with an exedy clutch cover(same as oem design) and it cleared bell housing. The e5* fwd boxes have the same splines as w5* boxes.

But in answer to your question, try clutch and brake Australia if you still have trouble. They also can custom build stuff for you.

I took the easy option and just bought an rn40 hilux clutch disc, 215mm 21 spline 28.9mm diameter. Was only 66 bucks so works out cheaper than modifying the existing disc. Next time when the clutch is fried (I'll make short work of this one :D) I'll chuck in a lighter flywheel and go for a larger more aggressive clutch setup.
