23rd June 2012, 03:36 PM
so after buying a white trueno coupe last week i got the opportunity to buy another trueno i had wanted,so had to take it!i had a wanted thread looking for a jdm 86 and a nice chap named lim contacted
me saying he was thinking of selling.i eagerly awaited pics and was excited when i seen it was silver over black and had a long list of mods including a built 4age.......

long story short i ended up flying to melbourne on thursday, buying the coupe and driving it back.i was delighted when i seen it,no rust in sight or sign of any previous accident damage.
lim had loads of receipts for full engine build and general servincing.it seemed to get everything it needed and was cared for.

anyway a few pics

as i bought it,first night in its new home

john84ie
23rd June 2012, 03:50 PM
no way man!i love the early spec front seats, doubt i'd find a mint drivers one though.the headrests on early spec jdm is far more comfortable..black interior would look pretty stealth though!

That car sales one has a fair bit of cancer in it. The photos make it look pretty good in the ad. The seller sent me some photos of the worst of it. Mainly in the boot, but would be a good track hack still!

Sounds good John, if its still fs on the weekend ill go check it out hopefully, because 8k for a jdm trueno notchback that is registered is a decent deal & it has greddy type S coilovers.

I guess its not as epic as your white one but, but then we can be s/b buddies haha -I cant even find images of them in google must be shit rare.

to be honest, you dont want a small small small little screw or bolt flying into them open quads.. 1 in a million chance but speaking from experience 1 in a million is 1 to many!!

bloody nice car would be a shame if the engine went bang because of open quads =[

Or stockings folded over a couple times and sewing machine oil.

Jimmee1990

Even if nothing large did fall in there, running them open sucks in all the small dust and grit in the air and will wear the rings and bores much faster.

^^^ are you 12 years old? Are you gonna 'man up' when you need a rebuild?

The car is a street car not a race car, you dont need the extra 400kw you get by taking the filters off.....

Forget about stupid shit like taking off filters Johnny, and go and get the car tuned because it needs it.

Even though I havent run filters for the past 2 years, I understand the benefit of a proper filter.

BUT, its not even funny how crap those uni filter socks are, they basically ruin any benefit of having a half decently made bellmouth. You may aswell put golf balls in the trumpets instead of sock filters....

This car looks awesome though! Majorly jealous of all the ae86 loving which must go on at your house!

Need more power in this! Been having loads of ideas and don't know what to do! Would love to ditch the aircon and power steer and throw some other engine in it.. But at the same time it's a gt apex so nice having the comforts and would effect the re-sale value if I took those bits out.
Wanna get this tuned again but don't know if its a waist of money, everything I've read reckons bigports are a waist of time.. Goes alrite as it is and runs sweet and has a fresh rebuild. Any suggestions? 7age or something would be nice maybe?

Few other plans/parts needed
New kouki bumper
Kouki mounts
new kouki bumper lights-have
Fit zenki lip to said kouki bumper
4.77 weir cwp
Ajustable trailing arms-have
Omori tacho to replace digi tacho/speedo
Brake upgrade of some order

damn, nice spec list. i'm pretty much at a loss for recommended mods seeing as your car is pretty much already at dream spec. if its already really nice to drive as a daily maybe just take it for what it is, a perfectly modded ae86 that is still able to be driven daily.
do you FEEL like the engine has more in it? i'd say ditch the wolf ecu, the two people i know that run them cant say many good things about them. either that or get a good tune to see what else you can get out of the motor. 4.7 ratio would help too.
build a 10,000rpm screamer :P

As I said Johnny, after you letting me drive it, the motor felt healthy, but needed a re-tune for 'spirited' driving in my opinion. Was torquey, but was lacking towards the top end, which is where these engines love. Autotech in Hume know 4ages well and are good at their work. If it was me in your situation, I would take it in there....

See if your still unhappy after that.

Leave the engine in there, see if getting it tuned puts a bigger smile on your face or not.

This might be a stupid reference but have you not seen tsuchiya in his best motoring dvd's, or even in any of his youtube videos where he drives a hachi. He loves getting back into an n/a hachi after driving 1000hp+ drift cars. Appreciate it!

@johl nah I have a ae92 daily, this is just a weekend car. Heater isn't working so to cold to daily it at the minute!lol

@Peter I do love it as is. I've had lots of 4ages and this it by far the quickest! Just the guy I bought it off had like 10k in receipts for the motor build so would be expecting a bit more really! We'll see how a tune goes anyway.. Need to get it out for a track day or something and enjoy it

@ johl theres always more to do,or more money to spend more like!!

@splpry- yeah I did like the zenki front but kouki is nicer at the end of the day and looks lower which is the look I'm after

@ clint/ Jojo yeah usually don't like bonnets with big vents and shit, this one has kind of grew on me, if I was to change will be non vented carbon bonnet or just standard

maxhag
10th August 2012, 09:32 PM
carbon (standard) +1

I like the bonnet you have, but because the fitment is out and it's warped, it needs to be changed for the car to be uber clean.....

Alot of the time carbon bonnets aren't perfect fit, I got a varis plain trueno bonnet from Japan a few years ago and it was the same, wasn't cheap either

Had alot of rubbing in the front since I lowered it. So had to pull out the guard liners and get out the lump hammer!

It's still catching where the bumper mounts to the guard, any ideas to stop this??

Johnny, smashing that bit where its been rubbing is a REALLY bad thing to do on AE86's. It splits all the seem welds. Sure, looks fine, but not a structually wise thing to do.... I Found out the hard way with the gold 86....

Ah well, had to be done to run wide wheels, I won't be down sizing the rims anyway! Seen plenty of 86's with that bit folded over

DONT EVEN THINK OF DOING THIS!!! HUME IS COP CENTRAL...

The cops are always in hume at night. Trust me dude, I work night shift in hume 6 nights a week..... They hide, waiting for guys like you to come. They impounded 2 cars 2 weeks ago...... They have operations out there to catch hoons.

You have been WARNED!

Well it had to be done for how I want the car, and it's done now anyway so doesn't really matter, don't loose any sleep over it:P

Is the red car any closer to seein road?

Did a bit with the submarine too today, would love to get it on the road and drive up to that track day in Raleigh if I could get a spot

bradae85

Yea I folded that seam over too, didn't think it was a big deal until I saw maxhags Hachi with its speed holes. Is it a better idea to cut these seams off and weld it? Or any ideas of how to combat this? Stupid place for a seam if u ask me.

maxhag
20th August 2012, 05:51 AM
Yeah brad, I never thought it was bad till I had my acco. You can tell from mine that the seams welds had seperated when I folded over the seam. I can tell because the spot welds were already rusty...

Next time I will fold it over, but will get it welded again to seal it up....

RE; Red SR86

Going in for the final tune on tuesday. I had to fix a few things up with the fuel system. All fixed now tho. It already made 178kw with bad fuel pressure.......
It frys the tyres so easily :P
Will be racing it for the first time this sunday at the hillclimb. Come check it out Johnny!

I am having second thoughts about engineering and rego. I am highly considering just buying a good car trailer instead. Would be more useful. (I can also make some money back when I travel interstate to pick up cars for you :) )
Not 100% sure yet...
