So here's my first AE86. I've had KE70's and a T18 before, but not a hachi.

So it's either a Dec 83 or a Jan 84 build (not sure) zenki Levin.

Bought it for $1400 full of holes where rust had been cut out. It had no panels on it but came with everything minus a drivers door. The hatch that came with it was cut to bits so I went and got a TRD one with no rust for $200.

Trailered it 300kms home pulling it with an R30 Skyline (that only overheated once through the hills) and left it overnight still strapped to the trailer. The next day I started just bolting stuff on, seeing how it all looked so I can decide on a paint colour and start welding/sanding/priming.

Anyway, here's some photos.

How it came: All packaged up as a DIY kit.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/7/6/9/6/522450.jpg

Waterproofed with bubble wrap, a plastic bag, and the tail lights taped on.

Bolting stuff on:

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/7/6/9/6/522452.jpg

Front starting to come together.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/7/6/9/6/522453.jpg

Wing looks pretty tough.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/7/6/9/6/522454.jpg

So total expenditure so far:

Car: $1400
Hatch + Spoiler : $200

Total : $1600

If you include fuel and trailer hire, it comes closer to $1800.

Plans are to finish putting it together for now, decide on what I want to do with it, get the 4AC running, then strip it, weld, prime, paint, take it over the pits, get her rego'd, then slammed on longchamps and use her as a daily.

Could of had any other car as a daily with less headaches in less time and effort and will last longer with less future issues, but good to know you perfered a ae86 instead. Congrats on your new car

Cheers guys. It was a 300km round trip to just past Gawler.

Did some more putting stuff together today.

Got her to the point where she was drivaeable with the doors tied up. Had to jump start it and re-tune the carby and timing to get her to idle. Still misfires though.

Interior is looking a little sad.

So I did the bumpers today. Sanded them down, primered them using a flexible primer and then sprayed them with bumper paint. Went for satin black. Also painted the grill in gloss black as well as the little number plate light holders, also in gloss black. Went all the way to even colour matching the screw heads. I'm a bit pedantic when it comes to details, want this car pretty spot on when it's finished.

A video of it's first proper run:

I think the bumper is slightly bent. Might need to set up a couple of vices and leave it for a bit to straighten out.

The ass:

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/7/6/9/6/522465.jpg

So total expenditure so far:

Car: $1400
Hatch + Spoiler : $200
Oil + Filter: $50
Air + Fuel filter : $15
Bumper primer, bumper paint and paint for grill + rego plate lights : $25

Total : $1690

I see both your front fenders are bent at the doorjam. Happend to one of my fenders too. They easily pop back into shape.

Looking forward to more updates. ;)

Now have both a letterbox grill and some zenki "black" parkers on the way from Ireland.

Couldn't find many pictures of the black parkers, but I believe them to be OEM and not aftermarket or modified.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/7/6/9/6/537212.jpg

Best part is, got it all for a swap for the original centercaps off of my wheels, and the zenki grill that I painted up.
Only cost is the postage from Ireland. Bargain!

Those black parkers are indeed OEM in Europe.

Not much, but I decided to get my OK'ish camera out and did the whole "tape over the headlights for JDM look" trick. Also got an AE86 gear nob and the rear boot seal :)

Not much of an update, but I sanded the bonnet smooth, fixed most of the dents and started priming. Realised that one can of $13 primer wasn't going to be enough.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/501792.jpg

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/501793.jpg

Still need to adjust where it sits on the hinges.

Using cheap can primer and sanding smooth because I'll be plasti-dipping the entire car in the end.

Hope to have it registered and on the road by February next year.

Then wheels and choppies, maybe a muffler. Got a letterbox grille on the way too.

Desperately in need of a drivers door that hasn't had the guts cut out of it for registration. If anyone knows of one, in any condition, I'm willing to pay the right price.

Update!

Bought some hurricanes. They're in the mail.

Fitted my series 2 front end. Looks dope.

Painted the car. Looks like someone set fire to it.

Let's go.

Probably going to redo the bonnet and roof, they're a little patchy. Still, not bad for a dirt driveway job.

KE70 to the rescue!

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/7/6/9/6/503834.jpg

Quick bash down the beaten track and some suspension diagnostics, then a hose off. Matte black cars get dirty, but damn they're easy to wash.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/7/6/9/6/503837.jpg

Still a bit of work to go, lots of parts missing, so I don't see myself reaching my deadline. But it will get there eventually.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/7/6/9/6/503838.jpg

Bought some fender flares (to tuck those super fat stockies) and got some glass in, got some door strikers and all the latches in. Passenger door is now omplete. Opens, closes and locks, window winds up and down :D
Drivers door is another story though. All the mountings for the latch are completely bent beyond reasonable repair. The hinges are also screwed, so I'm now sourcing another door (hopefully have one lined up from Tazzy, as well as carpet).

Pics n shit!

Everyone knows that it's not how you stand by your car, it's how you drive it.

(Bonnet and roof are pissing me off. It was way too hot when I painted it. Need to re-do it when I get the patience.)
