Hey guys I'm looking to get a high hp 4age built for a gravel rally car. I'm in Sydney but am happy to give the build to a garage interstate. Who's the best guy for the job.
Whats the realistic hp I should hope for.
Ps it has to be a 4age to comply with prc rally regs .

what is a rally spec engine?
if your chasing power out of a 4age then it would be the same as any other build right?
higher comp
cams
ECU+tune
ITBs closed in a box since its rally..wouldn't be smart to run open quads lol..
possible to just use a black top 20v 4age? they have been rated at 90kw at the wheels with a retune from a stock engine..
16v 4age is possible to do the same but you spend more money
there are a few shops that know their 4ages in Sydney so you wont need to sent it away

What I meant by rally engine is big hp but reliable . I'm chasing alot more than 90kw too. What's most hp you can get outa these engines

200hp+ If you want a N2 spec motor. Not cheap either. Fingdthe TRD bible, it has so comparisons of race and rally built motors.

Hit up John aka sprinterman86 he is in penrith.
Tell him what you want and he will tell you what you need to know.
I know many folks who have been to him and although not the cheapest, he is one of the most honest and professional chaps i have ever dealt with and his work is second to none.

wouldn't rally and race be built on the same theory? max performance and reliability for X amount of cash available.
yeah 200hp+ is easy with $10 000 for just the build..as mentioned would be N2 spec race engine and just sitting under a Formula Atlantic 4age engine spec i believe..and then maintenance which is part of reliability involves in tearing down the engine after each race or event to check for internal damage and then rebuild it for use again.. because you wouldn't just drive this engine for 200 000km like a standard engine would you?
that's if your looking for anything close to 200hp+

Dam Richard do you hover the forums all day lol!
Id assume for rally you would want wide torque band more then outright hp?
Keep the oil cool and fresh same with water and johns engines will last a long time.

i sort of disagree with you Richard
an N2 engine would be shit house in a gravel rally car (and you cant use 20v from memory)
as pointed out above you need a wide usable torque band, wouldnt want to rev it to more than 8000 ideally and obviously tearing it down once a season not once every 10 hours of use
he wants someone with experience building rally engines not just someone who can bolt on parts I would imagine
To the OP there has been a few 4age ae86s in PRC in most states so ask around - Andy Macdonald from perth (now QLD) has a blue one - i can pass on his email if you like

I was talking to that guy in the USA ... All sorted . Proven 245hp out of a 4age .. That will go nicely with the tractive sequential 6 speed box . I'll post engine specs tomorrow serious bit of kit

That would be the fellow from club4ag. I take it you are already a member of bms forums, a few built 4age's there for the sole purpose of rally. Maybe have a chat to one of the owners if you haven't already. :)
