Car - AE71 Corolla Pano

motor / part in question - ?

problem - Toyota factory weight

Did a search, but only in tech, sifted though a couple of pages. didn't see anything like what i'm chasing, so here goes.

How do you find out what the manufacturer specification for weight was back in the day?
Like, factory designated weight for that vehicle

I want to know what the biggest engine size (CU IN) that is legally allowed in QLD.
The formula I was given for QLD is

4 cyl vehicle weighing under 1100kg for CU IN you multiply the original weight by .183 for naturally aspirated
and by .153 for forced induction.

Or ANY vehicle weighing more than 1100kg for CU IN you multiply the original weight by .294 for aspirated
and by .244 for forced induction

So if the Pano weigh's more than 1100 I can go nutz out on engine size, but I kinda doubt it, however the idea is entertaining me.
Give you an ideal of what i'm on about
CU IN - L
1 CU IN = 0.0163871 L

1101kg = 323.694 CU IN
= 5.3L NA
or 4.4L FI

1UZ M122 set up legally...hell yeahs!

Ali.

So, hang on, says
Tare weight of vehicle without any oplions: 850kg,
but lower says
Average weight 1420kg
- which looks to me like the sum of vehicle, motor, box and options....
So if I have A/C and a tow bar i'm rocking?
What is Tare weight? google where are you

lolwat

not average weight, "Aggregate" weight, so its maximum weight fully loaded(you fill it with shit that the most the car is legally aloud to weight)

Argh,OK, my bad....I can't read.
850kg 2.54L NA or 2.13L FI
or can I argue
893kg (a/c and towbar) 2.67L NA or 2.23L FI
I have a towbar for it A/C wouldn't be that hard to work out...8|
Looks like 16V turbo stays where it is.
Thanks for that man!

it goes off vehicles tare weight with fixed options, so you cant say it weighs 1420KG's because you filled it with sand

893kg is what you should be working off

However, if I was allowed to use the more than 1100kg formula on 850kg, 4.0L NA would be legal in QLD.
Amendment! Amendment!

So if I make my own billet 2.6L V8 block that uses 20V 4age heads and pistons i'm in business.
Off to buy a lottery ticket.
Or if I don't win big, join 2 4k's together....

You has a panno! Doesn't that mean it's a commercial vehicle and is exempt from the bullshit? Like guys with patrols put in turbo diesel v8s.

You've never heard of the 6boost panno? Street legal 9sec car running a 1g.

There is a 2.6L hyabusa v8 but around 20k though, makes like 4/500hp though.

Yah me has Panno.
I'm goin to ring enginner from work and ask about the commercial vehicle clause you speak of.
Say what? From QLD?
1G or 1J, 1G is 2.L Turbo legal, 1J 2.5 (2492cc) Turbo, technically not legal in QLD, but I reckon you could get away with it.
Is that the 1J mini tubbed light grey Ae71 with the 70 Series landcruiser diff

EDIT - I just YouTubed it, unreal and 1G 2.3L stroker legal.

I don't know the particulars. I just remember my mate telling me what I posted. Maybe commercial vehicles are more lenient in mods than passenger vehicles?

I don't get what the deal is with motor sizes? Like the 6boost 1g made 550hp and was street legal. If it got an NA 2.5l, it'd barely make 160whp. Just bolt a 1jzgte in but use a on a 2jz head because it flows better and use the associated (stock) NA exhaust manifold. Reg the car and NA+T, BOOM. 500hp, easy.

Only reason I suggest 2jz head is because I don't know if 1jz exhaust flange is same an NA 2jz. NA 2jz and turbo 2jz have different exhaust flanges. NA 1jz exists but they only came in weird cars.

a bit off topic here- I remember seeing in a mag a picture of a prototype Suzuki engine that was a 1.6L V8

I imagine it would be a short stroke high reving little thing. Would sound cool.

I found this 2.6L V8 350hp

NCOP - Game changer

ADR:- Vehicle categories
Taken from
http://www.comlaw.gov.au/Details/F2014C00051
4.5. Goods Vehicles
4.5.1. A motor vehicle constructed primarily for the carriage of goods and having at least 4 wheels; or 3 wheels and a ‘Gross Vehicle Mass‘ exceeding 1.0 tonne.
4.5.2. A vehicle constructed for both the carriage of persons and the carriage of goods shall be considered to be primarily for the carriage of goods if the number of seating positions times 68 kg is less than 50 percent of the difference between the ‘Gross Vehicle Mass‘ and the ‘Unladen Mass‘.
4.5.3. The equipment and installations carried on certain special-purpose vehicles not designed for the carriage of passengers (crane vehicles, workshop vehicles, publicity vehicles, etc.) are regarded as being equivalent to goods for the purposes of this definition.
4.5.4. A goods vehicle comprising 2 or more non-separable but articulated units shall be considered as a single vehicle.
4.5.5. LIGHT GOODS VEHICLE (NA)
A goods vehicle with a ‘Gross Vehicle Mass‘ not exceeding 3.5 tonnes.

Taken from:-
http://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/rvd-pre1999/data/pdf/11730.pdf
AE71 Pano GVM 1355
Exceeds 1 tonne, does not exceed 3.5 - therefore is ADR Category NA

Maximum engine capacity
Taken from
https://www.infrastructure.gov.au/vehicles/vehicle_regulation/bulletin/files/NCOP3_Section_LA_Engine_01jan2011_v3.pdf

Table LA1 does not apply to commercial (ADR Category NA and NB1) or four wheel drive off-road (ADR category MC) type vehicles such as commercial vans, light trucks, small buses, etc. for which there are no set recommended limits.

Equivalent Engine Installation
Under LA1
Is the mass and power output of the replacement engine not more than 20% greater than that of any engine offered by the original manufacturer for that model?
- Does not apply to category NA - no set recommended limits.

Performance Engine Installation
Under LA2
Does the replacement engine comply with the requirements of Table LA1 of this Code?
- Does not apply to category NA - no set recommended limits.

After reading all of this many times over, I am confident that a 1UZ can be installed legally in an AE71 Pano.

All feedback welcomed here.
