Hi guys,

I'm really busy at the moment building a 7a with blacktop head. The build is very similar to 70xin's build on here. The difference is I am using ae111 oil pump and hydro tensioner. In his thread delazy I think mentioned using a 16V TB with this combo. Can anyone confirm that this is the right belt to use with a 7a block, ae111 oill pump and tensioner, and 20V head?

Thanks,
Grant

Ill confirm tomorrow 100% but have been told it is the 16v 4age timing belt. Though a couple of people have said the blacktop tensioner could be a bit tighter as the belt feels a tad sloppy.

Yep, with that combo it's a 16V belt :)

(Mine was different because i used a 16V/7AFE oil pump and tensioner)

Hi Seamus, did you end up using factory main bolts? Is it important do you think to go with arp studs here?

The blacktop belts are already kind of slack with the ae111 tensioner. 16V belt with ae111 tensioner on 7ag 20v is more slack than this even?

Hey grant. I used factory main bolts. I'm yet to see a motor that has a 'need' for anything better ;)

And i can't comment on the next question. You're best to ask 'delazy' (or even look in his build thread, on some of the more recent pages) - i think he has made/purchased a nut/bolt adjuster that fits inside a gutted AE111 tensioner - just to be on the safe side.

I have a 7AGE with a 20v Silvertop head...My friend and I recently did a rebuild on it and I got new belts for it. I don't know much about engines but here are some details from my build.

- 20v Silvertop head
- 7A stock block
- 7A stock rods and 20v Pistons (I got new rungs too)
- Timing Belt = Gates PowerGrip HTD (Made in Germany) 5131 - 115x3/4" 28 116AG
- Alternator Belt = Dayco Poly-Rib 5PK0825 325K5
- New T3 pulley kit (Crank, Alternator, Water pump)

I'll put up a build thread soon of what I did, seems kinda dodgy and cheap because we did a back yard job on everything. Hope this is a little help. The guy at Bursons told me the timing belt comes from a Renault (I think he said 89' model)

hence nickname "Delazy"

Had intention of doing so, but couldnt find any tensioners to cut up and didn't really want to cut up a brand new one ..

This one was the best looking version I could find compared to the many horror stories I also found .. My spending habit overpowered in the end

Yeah, after reading the last few pages of your thread, I can see why you went that option. Plus you just love the jap jewels!
