Car - KE70

motor / part in question - Blacktop 4AGE 20V

problem - First car wouldn't start, finally got it started, try to put throttle down to rev a little bit, car basically dies then just before its about to conk out and turn off it pops some major flames out through trumpets and slowly struggles to build revs and eventually gets up higher in rev range.

occurs/started when (if applicable)- tried to do burnouts

personal situation (if applicable)- just want to compete in summernats, not being able to rev is making it difficult to win burnout comp.

Yeah, seems broken as, what would make it do this? Timing?

sounds like badassery, just drive around with no bonnet shooting flames out from the intake

edit:
timing or ignition

This happened to Nam (Levin 86) once, set his quad socks on fire. Sorry I have no idea. Im guessing timing/injector issues

timing both ing and cam, mostly cam
firing order
extreame over fueling
quad alignment
injector seals mabey?

if all the rest check out start checking all sensors reltive to the above

this was basically the main useful points when my beams was fucked at the start and shooting flames.

my bet is on cam timing

this was basically the main informative

What dizzy kit you running? Sounds simply like your firing order is out?

Before you fix it get a video of it, would make a nice .gif.
Maybe your vvt is fucked hence why it takes ages to rev and cam timing is out allowing this to happen

Tps maybe? My 16v that runs quads and razorback ecu ran tps only ant the pickup for the tps didnt make contact until 20% throttle, when it would run it ran like shit the same way you described. I adjusted the point where it first makes contact and is sweet as now.:o

I reckon you lined the wrong dots up. Or firing order is in reverse.

sounds like you dont have 12v cranking power going to you STA wire at the ecu. check that cause that was my problem and it shot flames out of the quads.

cams can skip tooths fairly easily.
could even be a bolt thats fallen down in the timing case thats caused trouble.
again same as what my motor has done.

(not saying you wont check it or what ever) but i love the "i haven't changed anything there" or "why would it change??" when things aren't running right
and guess what ####, your engine used to run and it now doesn't and you haven't touched anything, check everything

hahaha what? Ease up turbo. I meant in regards to lining up the wrong dots.

Check your injector seals too... Come to think of it my ae82 sedan was doing similar things and when i removed the spark plugs after running it for a few seconds i saw this....

It'd struggle to start and when it did it ran like shit...

Bear in mind, this setup has since ran fine, then back to this, then ran fine etc.. New/different vvt solenoid has been installed. Timing marks looked the good (I was a bit pissed at the time lawl)
Didn't get to get a timing light onto it at any point though.

what fuel reg are you running?

would be worth a check to see if either the lines havn't acidently been swapped or broken...

its mixture or timing... its classic "carbs".... mixture is to lean
Or your timing is to retarded.
