hey guys,i have a stock bigport run by stock ecu in my 86 at the moment,im thinking about chucking a pair of cams in it,what can you run in a stock motor on stock management?would it be worth doing?been looking around and got way to many different opinions on sizes, lift etc,car is set up/used for drift regod but rarely street driven if that matters.most common answer i got was you can run 264's on stock management but i duno sounds abit out there:right:

Depending on how much overlap and lift you run and how well dialed in the cams are makes a big difference. I ran a stock jdm bigport with 270 degree cams and it ran terribly until I played around with adjustable cam gears, after it was all set up properly it went heaps better than before they went in. These were cams designed with running the stock ecu in mind however, so the specs may be a bit different to the typical hks or toda etc cam grinds. Definately good bang for buck if you're going to fit them yourself.

i have some adjustable cam gears in garage for a 7a,they are for a 20 v, are the adjustable cam gears interchangable between 16 and 20 v?is messing around with cam gears something you can do at home and pick up or do you need abit of experience?

As far as i'm aware the exhaust pulley is the same for 16v and 20v, but haven't ever had them side to side to compare. I don't know what the difference between timing marks for a 7a compared to a 4a would be either. You can play around with cam gears at home, but when I do I always turn the engine over by hand as a general rule to make sure there's no issue with valve to piston clearances, and only make small changes at a time.

thanks, yer just read that, they work on exhaust side and you dont use them on intake side on a 20 v,so the toda gears i have are 16 v,do you know what brand your 270's were?ide like to find some that are compatible with stock ecu

yes exhaust cam gear for 20v is same as 16v, inlet isn't obviously
7a marks??? what cam gears are they, only need to go adjustable cam gear with 7a because the timing marks don't line up, because of the taller block, if they have timing marks 0 should be for a 4a

I'm running HKS 264 8.1mm lift cams in my bigport with a stock jdm ecu. Its only a track car so i cant comment on how it drives on the street but there was a noticeable improvement on the track. The car idles fine, doesn't stall and gets around the pits no worries at slow speeds.

Mine were done by Clive Cams in melbourne, he grinds them from scratch from new billets. If you wanted to talk to someone there about different options for a 4a, ask for trent cause he's built a few.

the grind that Clive offers is as following:
268/268
8mm lift
I can supply adjustable pulleys if you need them. The 20v exhaust can be used, the only difference is will be the timing mark is one tooth out.
