Looking at doing some track days other than drift so I'm shopping for some semi slicks. I'm currently running on 14x8 -12 rims and wondering if its beneficial going to a 15 inch rim. Namely a 15x9. Now on the 14's I would look at running a 195/60/14. The only ones available that I've found to come in this size is the Bridgestone re55s, Dunlop dz03g, Yokohama a048 and a050. I could go a 205/55/14 in a toyo r888 or nitto nt01 but I'm worried about front guard clearance.

All of the tyres I've mentioned are available in 15inch in a 195/50, 195/55 or 205/50 which would be my preferred size.

Should I go to a 15 inch wheel? Will it make that big of a difference?

Thanks guys

i wouldn't bother unless you are planning on filling the wheels up with bigger brakes

you'll have less unsprung weight with the 14's and a better rolling diametre

15s usually offer better range of compounds and prices

dont run 15x9s if you want to run semi slicks in a 195...

7s or 8s are plenty

as for rolling diameter it will be more or less the same

I agree, i'd get some 8's if i was going to run a 195.

I think if i get more into i would definitely look at upgrading my front brakes but at the moment what i've got will be ok.

Anyone in Sydney know where to go for the best prices? I know shops like taleb, ozzy and st george tyres do semi's but not in 14".

Ive got some prices on A050's for $270 and the DZ03G for $280 for 195/60/14.

ae71neo

Im not looking to do any racing, just some practice days n shit. I believe improved production run 195 maximum on a 7" max rim? Im not too sure. Are you looking at 14's or 15's?

14's bro I have the exact same wheels as you

ae71neo
19th October 2012, 02:32 PM
Well I rang a few people. These are all 195/60/14 and if we bought 8 of them.

A050 $250
RE11 $320
DZ03G $285

Apparently the RE11 replaces the RE55S but I didn't think the 11 was a proper r spec. Also there's the silverstone FTZ RR in a 185/55/14 for $265 which apparently runs on the wider side.

Surely there's better prices out there, not sure where though.

Try tirerack.com It will still work out to be considerably cheaper getting those tyre from the states than locally.

I bought some Kumho v700 205/55/14 for rear on 8" rim and 195/55/14 for front on 7" rim. Was $225 a tyre. Haven't used them yet, but read good reviews on the tyre.

195/55/14 would be good size too. I'll have to price some of those, I've read a few things about them too.

Hi guys, i have been looking in to this same dilemma myself. I saw someone mention that you can't get semi's from tirerack in suitable sizes, there are in fact a few options from them however the only brand that they will ship to australia is Kumho.
They have a Semi called V710, only two of the options are a low enough price to even consider, if you can get Nitto's for $219 locally.

It is available in the following:

14s
195/55/14 - $180ea
205/55/14 - $185ea
225/50/14 - $216ea

15s
205/50/15 - $222ea
225/50/15 - $226ea

Very good point, i was looking at two sets of tyres and couldn't figure out why one was $90 less per tyre than everywhere else. Turns out they were 2007 stock whereas the others were 2011 stock.

Anyone know of a place to get R888's in 205/55r14 or 225/50r14 locally that don't charge a fortune? I'd consider the kumho's but i dont like the look of the wear rating

Just on this, i asked for a quote on the shipping and it was over $300, so the local Nitto NT01s work out much cheaper

NT01s have arrived and been fitted to my 14x8's. I must say they fit this size wheel perfectly. And yeah they were purchased from Taleb through ebay.
