3.7 is pretty low. that being said 4.7 is generally only used for na applications. i would start at 4.1 and see how that goes

Is it a drift car? Why did it break? Maybe it's a circuit/time attack car since you're worried about making the diff taller.

Just upgrade the diff to a bigger one and worry about ratio then. Slap the 3.77 in and keep driving and enjoying it in the mean time rather than waiting for the "right" part to come up for sale.

It is set up for drift, I'm guessing it was the 5 puck clutch an the last owner was very clutch happy if u know what I mean.
I want to drift it plus take it to track days as well so I'm trying to find a happy medium. It's just the 3.77 ratio came up to day because it was the only shop that had one in stock or could even find a crown an pinion for that matter for a AE86 PLUS I'm racing at Queensland raceway an it's not what u call a huge long track

if you want to hit limiter in 5th at about 160

turbo cars have the torque to pull the longer gears

they come with 3.9 stock in nissans

your car is light

get the 3.77s if theyre cheap or order new 4.1s

Ha ha Narrr i dont want to be doing that. They want to sting me $350 for the 3.77 without labor.

Johl said to start with the 4.1 too so I think I'll go with that :)

Thanks for your help David appreciate it

if you got the 5's you would run out of gears on the main straight at qr. you should be able to find 4.1's in local wreckers. there is a thread around here somewhere about what car model came with what diff and ratio. i cant remember where it is but if you search around you will probably find it. or put up a wanted to buy thread and someone local should be able to help you if you need it quick

If they are plentiful and easy to get ahold of get a 4.1. For me the chance of finding any final is slim so I'll take what I can get. In saying that the next 3.9 or 4.1 that I find (and have money for) I'm buying it.

Seems like the prices you're getting quoted for a ring and pinion are extreme. If you just want to get it running, get to the local wrecker and pull out a centre from anything with a T series diff (80s Celicas and a bunch of other stuff, just check the build plate). $20 bucks later you have a 3.9 or 4.1 ratio to throw onto your centre.

But if you're going to get serious with a CA18 AE86 I'd strongly consider upgrading the diff to something larger that you will be able to flog with peace of mind.
