I have a smallport 4AGE KE70 and my 'check engine' light just stays on, when it is in diagnostic mode it shows error 42 (vehicle speed sensor) but there is no speed sensor in the car as far as I know.

also after turning a corner the car stutters cutting in and out for a few seconds, seems fine is a straight line though??

vehicle speed sensor on some cars will stay on if its not connected, mine comes on and goes randomly.
hows your fuel setup? fuel filters clean and what type of setup are you running? sounds like your getting fuel surge while cornering

I have an electric lift pump in my ke70 tank feeding a 2L surge tank in the boot with a standard VL pump, it really does feel like fuel surge but why is it happening with a surge tank :/

You maybe need to prime the surge tank, IE fill it up with fuel before you get the main pressure pump draining from it, it may not have the same flow rates from the lift pump to the HP pump to keep things gently overflowing, also, are you returning your fuel from the rail to the surge tank, and then overflowing from the surge tank to the main cell? Or does your return flow into the main cell? Its generally better to return fuel from the rail to the swirl pot or surge tank.

yes the fuel rail return goes back into the surge tank, and i primed the surge tank to see if that worked and it did! except when the tank is full, if I fill the tank at the servo until it 'clicks off' the car can barely move from stuttering but after a few K's and possibly enough fuel used up the problem seems to go away... Haven't heard of it before :/ it's annoying never being able to fill the tank.

So to be clear you followed this idea when plumbing your system...
