View Full Version : Don't tell my girlfriend!

1st December 2012, 10:59 AM
When I purchased my 86 I told my girlfriend it would be a good "cheap" daily to have while we saved for our first house. She bought it!!! Since then I have spent thousands on it and like all works in progress I'm still spending. I have had to hide all the parts i buy and wait till she goes out so I can quickly install them before she gets home. I have another project car (starion) that acts as a good hiding spot and I have started getting stuff delivered to my mates house but I think she's starting to get sus.

When I picked it up it looked like this

27622

Was pretty much standard when I got it apart from standard height king springs and an interior swap.
This is how it sits now

27624

27623

Since the engine bay pic I have cleaned up the wiring and a bunch of other stuff.
It went through a few exterior changes with a vertex kit and rims but I got sick of all the attention I was getting from Johnny law so I settled on the current look.

27625

Engine is a bigport from a jap 86 with HKS cams and heaps of porting. Adaptronic ecu, alloy rad, kaizen extractor, 2.25 over diff exhaust, locked s series that I'm sick of. I have a T series hiding under the staz. Have done a bunch of other stuff to it that I will update soon. future plans are buy a house and stop being scared of getting busted then do a full rotisserie strip down and respray. Maybe trueno front end? Enjoy it. Was planing on skiding it but I love it too much. I will drift the starion instead.

Think I fixed the pics, more to come soon.

Considering shockworks Geoff, just not sure how I would hide them. Leave it with me...

I know, I feel like its only a matter of time till I'm sleeping in it. Speaking of bleeding pandas, when I did the panda paint job I was drunk and used $2 cans in the back yard on a windy rainy day.

This arrived today addressed to someone called Surly Guy. Wonder who that could be???

27628

27629

Had these in it.

27630

Also painted my bonnet black when she was home. Then I took it off and hid it at a mates place and put this on.

27631

If she says anything I was just going to tell her it's carbon fiber paint...

Lol you are the worst....

I have that issue where those overnight parts from Japan turn up at my place... Usually after a week or so after a big night where I jump on eBay in between getting home and passing out.

Looks like the boots on the bearings have had a harsh life... Surely 2nd hand? Or purchased at a reduced price?

lolwat
4th December 2012, 01:05 PM
am i the only one, that wonders why you bother hiding it??

d1staz
4th December 2012, 01:24 PM
The boots are stuffed. They are new and were display items so a lot cheaper. Where can I get new boots?

I'm hiding everything because we are flat out saving for a house and the only reason I was able to buy another car was because I lied and said it would be cheap to own one. I also promised I wouldn't modify it. And I'm scared of her!

Damn thats clean Geoff, It would take me months of prep to get the car that straight. Will see how it goes next year.

Yesterday it went from this

27796

To this

27797

Still need to get some number plate lights for the center piece.

I didn't need to hide these cause they were from santa. Also replaced my hatch cause it was rusty. She still hasn't noticed the carbon fiber bonnet yet. I wish I could have taken more pics of everything I have done to it but I didn't want to leave to much evidence. Will post up a full spec list tonight.

The bonnet thing is the funniest thing i have read in ages! LOVE IT

10th January 2013, 09:22 PM
HAHA, thanks Huw. nearly got busted with the bonnet the other day. I saw her looking at it and got worried. then she asked me about the bonnet pins I put on. Thought I was dead.

Anyway this happened on the way home from work today.

27917

Got a replacement on the way. It was my fault, had my compressor in the back and went around a corner too fast. Shit happens...

Replacement on the way? For any spares like that hit me up, i've got a couple of spare rear quarters that have been sitting behind the shed for ages.

Haha, yeah mate got that covered.

Started getting my broken window ready for when the new one arrives.

Trims off

27932

Glass out. Ended up tapping most of it out with the end of the vacuum so I would have less clean up. Worked well.

27933

All clean and ready to go.

i laughed so at this then quickly stashed the latest e-bay box in the shed before the wife got home

Matt's half right... Was about to do an update about 6 months ago on the ipad when my phone rang. put the ipad down with the page open to answer the phone and she found it. Tried to wrestle it out of her hands before she read the whole thing but she's way too strong and quick. Had to sleep with the dog for a while but I have finally graduated back to our bed. The bright side of all this is I got to keep the car and I'm still alive. Down side is all my money goes through her now so progress is slow. I have however found a loop hole. When I want an upgrade I just break something on the car. Like a few months ago I decided I wanted to go rx7 brakes. My rotors looked worn and my master cylinder started mysteriously leaking. I spun a bearing in the 4age so it's now 7age. I'm still trying to work out what I can break to justify going 7agte.

They are 15 x 7 fronts and 15x 7.5 rears. cant remember the offset. I will pull one off and have a look for you.

7th November 2013, 09:28 AM
Lol so now you are running a 7age? too funny. Argue the fuel economy of a 7agte is much better and whilst it is only a small investment now, it will be cost neutral in 12 months.

d1staz
7th November 2013, 10:22 AM
Haha I like your way of thinking. You could have a solid career in relationship espionage. I was going to just crack one of my header pipes.

Funniest thing l have read in a while. You could try the Fuel efficiency angle see if she buys that

Bit silly elaborating on the loophole. She probably reads this thread now.
Maybe make a fake thread as a decoy and we'll make a password locked thread for you.

Ancient thread revival!
Because of Facebook and other social media I haven't been active on here for years. I've recently deleted Facebook and most other junk so I started lurking on here again. Update on the sitch goes like this. Bought a house, built a garage and workshop and became less pathetic cause I can do whatever I want to the car now. After selling off the 7age I turbo'd a gze and started drifting it. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170903/f0ca9fafe442c2c4be3b5cb268ffdf56.jpg
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170903/251559cf8d19bcb0c2f0ebbbc0471ed3.jpg

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170903/4b283d4e96f8b649024c71c5c12a3ab6.jpg

Then I killed the engine. I wasn't even doing anything cool, it happened on the way home from getting a wheel alignment. It was two days before winter matsuri and I was super pissed so I ripped out the motor and threw it in the bin.

That inspired me to give it a bit of an overhaul. Car now has a weld in halfcage, Shockworks, adjustable lower control arms and a bunch of other suspension and steering mods. I liked having a turbo but hated the lag so have decided to go back to na. Exterior still looks ghetto.

But I tidied up the bay

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170903/22b8fd6587c9f6d823319fc8780a86cb.jpg

Then started the new conversion

The beams is pretty much stock internals but has been setup for turbo as far as modifying the water and oil lines so if I decide I want more power down the track it's not that hard. I'm waiting for a few more parts to arrive (koyorad, link ecu) then it's full steam ahead to get it finished before the driftx event in December. It would normally be heaps of time but I'm off to Japan in October/November for five weeks so it's a pretty tight deadline. Fingers crossed.

Not too thrilled to have Datsun parts touching my car but the mill spec loom I got with the engine is a work of art and was made to run the sr20 coils. I couldn't bring myself to cut it up and I'm in a rush to get this finished so in they go.
