hey guys,

well let me intro myself, my names Gorgi. i live in the act.

ok, well i can get or am going to get an australian spec Sprinter that has a gze conversion with a vl LSD diff and a w55 box in the car..

my main goal is to try and get the car down to 900kg if i can and about 150 kw,

now i plan on getting the car and doing a compression test and dyno to see where im sitting and if it happily makes 120 kw atm or even 110 i was thinking of leaving the engine and working with the body

anyway i sorta need some direction. should i do the engine first or last?? should i put the car on a diet??
is 150kw with complete forge bottom going to be reliable?? is turbo or SC more reliable??

is there an issue with the w55 in this car. it does 100km/h at about 3.5k revs. is this a little bad? what diff ratio would this give me now??

and if anyone would know the weight of an aussie spec sprinter or have a spec sheet on it i would greatly appreciate it.

well if anyone has any ideas or input pls help or throw in ur 2 cents from ur experience and help me out please

:D thanks heaps guys !

Welcome.

The easiest way to get power out of the gze engine is to remove the supercharger and bolt on a turbo... A few of the guys in canberra have done this with great success. Turbo has it's own challenges... running on a stock gze ecu can be done, but I personally don't recommend it.

Also stop concentrating on how many killawasps your car has, worry about the power delivery and what it is like to drive. You want something responsive and fun, not something that makes its peak power at 6000rpm.

Have a look through some of the build threads to get ideas.

Same as what Matt said, im 99% sure the adm comes in at 960kg in stock form

since its modded, id go to a weighbridge.

stock gze would be lucky to see 100kwatw but early torque for sexy skids

Peak torque on the gze is around 2000rpm

4.1 diff gears sit a little lower than that, i'd say you have 4.3's.

nothing wrong with a w55, rebuild kits are cheap and they are relatively easy to source if you do blow one.

is 150kw with complete forge bottom going to be reliable?

dont touch the bottom end, 4agze bottom ends are pretty stout.

A turbo'ed 4AGZE at 150kw is monster reliable PROVIDED THINGS ARE DONE RIGHT. Don't worry about anything fancy if you're after that sort of power, just make sure you do the work properly and sort out all the details.

Getting it down to a realistic 900kg is quite a big ask, though you can just go as far as you feel like with it. Every bit helps, but you also need to keep the car in a useable state.

as said before they weigh 960kg or so stock so thats alot of weight to lose, i striped the deadener on my floor in my ke and weighed it at 15kg then there isnt a huge amount of weight in door cards roof lining etc if you want to go that far. I personally like having interior haha and you dont want to start taking things away that are structural you will come to regret that oneday if involved in an incident.

Why this 900kg number? It's not really something people usually focus on for street or mild track cars....

What will the car be used for?

Do the basics for weight removal, but I wouldn't waste your time trying to do any more than that..... You will get better results if you put that time into the motor......
Stuff around trying to lose 80kg = really not that much performance gain for a street car
Have better motor - Big performance gains

Re; Motor - To easily achieve the power figure you want, a turbo would be the best and cheapest option. Reliable too if tuned and maintained... It's not too pricey these days to go turbo. The GZE bottom ends love it, turbos can be cheap for that power (Like the T25G of S13 SR20's)), and are pretty simple to setup..... An Aftermarket ECU will cost you, but is worth every penny for all future mods etc..... 150kw is very fun in an AE86 :P :P

The gearbox W5* is good. keep it.

As Maxhag and others have already said.

Why 900kg? Whilst a stock adm sprinter is supposed to weigh in at 960, your car will be quite a bit heavier already, especially with a borg warner diff.

In my old GZE ae86 (with a T series driveline) I did a 14 second 1/4 mile with all the interior and my 100kg ass in the car. As others have already said that would have been with somewhere around 100 to 110 killerwasps.

If you switch to turbo and drop in an ECU and a tune you should easily achieve your power figure and the driveline you have should ensure it is a reliable and fun car.

Wow such support from this community!

Well I planned on carboning the doors kits n hood to lose the wieght..

And turbo it up a littlr bit ^.^

If the car does 110 kw or more I might work the delivery n body. And then in another
Stint ill do the motor. I really wanna do the car in 2 go's. Body/delivery/weight/handling
And then after to do the engine, forge n psi!!

Anything.can be done. I just gotra win lotto :p

I've been in a 150kw corolla and it was a quick little car :) plenty of go
also if its not done already get good suspension and bushes, it will make the car feel amazing to drive i had heaps of fun in my ke70 stock for a couple of months before starting the conversion even tho it was super slow.

Are you saying carbon doors? Do you realise how much that would cost?

Well a bonnet is 1150 and front quarters are 599. Im guessing 1500 each??

Idk im planning on getting the whole kit together from one place, so it might get cheaper..

C how we go guys

maxhag

my point exactly.....
Sounds the goods, but AE86's dont need such wanker items.......
It's already a light car, and they go excellent already and supurb with a simple turbo......

In my opinion, going to this extreme of weight reduction only has a purpose when really tring to get hundreth of a second in serious circuit racing......

BUT, in saying all that,
IF THIS IS YOUR DREAM, THEN DONT LET ANYONE STOP YOU!!!! Do what makes you happy :)

Not trying to be a pain mate, but if you are going carbon doors you must mean this to be track car only, right?

Fairly sure they don't have any innards, let alone side intrusion protection...

If you got T-boned the other car would just drive through yours without even noticing :S

Everyone here loves low weight cars, but those carbon doors are designed for cars with cages
