my Celica GT4 (ST185) has been producing a slight crunch when changing gears (not 100% of the time but pretty often). it happens in gears 1-3 and especially in gear 3 and gear 1 sometimes produces a bit of resistance and need to somewhat force it in. it doesn't happen when changing gears when stationary. I had just had the gearbox changed not long ago, the previous one was crunching a lot before it just failed. when I bought it the dude said it had some weird 'competition clutch' and he said it's really sensitive. i was thinking maybe that has something to do with it, would changing to a normal clutch help things?

It wouldn't help things, I would suggest try changing to a better gear oil and if it doesn't improve the synchros are worn. Also worth checking is if the clutch actually disengages fully when you dpress the clutch pedal, because if it isn't the clutch will never be fully disconnected and wearing the synchros much faster.

busted retainers on the clutch springs can also cause this...
