Hey, not sure if the is the right place for this, but I want to book my car in for a exhaust in the next few weeks, I was wondering if anyone can tell me what size will be best. I was told to go 3" but that seem like it might be too big for a 1.6L. Will 3" be ok and not stupid loud or will a 2.5" be better way to go. I need a full turbo back system, any recommendations that will be not to loud for the boys in blue but still flow enough for decent horse powers.

also can anyone recomend a good place to get it done in the St George / Sutherland Shire area

cheers

Ran 2.25 on my turbo 4a didn't have an problem with flow. Mufflers make way more difference to loudness and flow than pipe size imo

I run a 3" system with 2 Lukey mufflers. It is pretty quiet for what it is really. I haven't dB tested it yet, but I am sure it would be fine.

I only went 3" as I got a straight through system from the guy that sent me the engine. When I can be bothered to remake a stainless system, I'll go with 2.25" or 2.5" to get a little more ground clearance.

Sweet thinking I might just get a 2.5" can't see that size having any problems

As the others said a good muffler will keep it quiet.... 2.5" or 3" would be my recommendation pending boost / etc.

i think that is pretty reasonable since its turbo back which is basically a whole exhaust

down pipe
cat
more pipe
mufflers
labor..

will it be stainless or just mild steel?

The quote will be for mild steel. He included a tow to and from the shop with the price aswell. might just bite the bullet and get him to do it.

I loose 6psi manifold pressure with my 2.5" system with only a rear trd muffler compared to my 3" stainless system.. though I only have a walker barrel muffler in it and its pretty truck like in tone..

3" is definitely what you want to go, with decent mufflers it will be still easily under the EPA limits.. I think the price is quite fair at $1000, especially a tow to the shop and whatnot.

+1 to go for it

3" over diff. If you have a shed, time, cut off saw and welder, buy mandrel bends, flanges, gaskets, muffler and cat, make it up your self.
