AE86 hand brake not locking?

Car - 1983 AE86

motor / part in question - Standard Rear brakes (disk brakes)

problem - Hand brake not locking wheels while in motion.

occurs/started when - Since I got the car about 3 years ago.

personal situation - Every time I pull the hand brake in order to put the car sideways the brakes refuse to lock up. They can hold the car on a hill but while in motion its like I have nothing at all. I've tried tightening the cable as much as possible but continue to have the issue. The pads also appear to have plenty of meat left as well. Any suggestions would be helpful.

I find disc rear ends in the 86's I've owned needed just a tiny little bit of footbrake while your on the hand brake and they lock fine. Besides, you don't really need one in such a low powered car anyway.

back on topic, ive done the above and it does work but shortly the hand brakes just gets loose and shit again, maybe it was just old and too worn out since they are old cars now (most likely i did it wrong) , so then like above, ive learned to just not even both touching it, just drive hard, flick harder, throttle longer, and with both hands on the steering wheel it means better steering correction and reaction time to fix mistakes and use foot brakes if required.

i do the same in my s14 now, the only difference is there is power so i dont need to throttle that hard to get it going to start with.

follow the links and test it, if it works then great, if it doesn't then it means you'll just learn how to drift a car properly.

2 - Use pile of cash to buy a T18 diff housing and mount ST141 Corona discs on it
3 - Enjoy good brakes with internal drum handbrake that locks up like... something that locks up easily and well.
4 - ???
5 - Profit

Using the footbrake while handbraking is also a good idea, it can help adjust angle/speed, but a decent handbrake should be able to lock the rears even without.

ive used jdm disc brake rear ends that have locked up well

another car i drove had a little mod to the cable to induce more leverage, cant remember exactly but it worked well
