Hey, Lads.

Finally got my AE71 Spirit, It's 99% stock it only has a sound system (clarion head unit and speakers on rear)
Stock 4AC, 5 speed I have to fix the rust on the boot (near lock) & just change some bushes, I am open to suggestions on modifications (:

Gave it a oil & filter change last night not to sure if it is common with the 4a-c to bellow out water/carbon out the exhaust & its also got quite an amount of white smoke coming out. I assume all of this is from the cold nights we are having nothing to bad. I hope its not a blown head gasket :\ its not using coolant or is there bubbles coming up out the cap of the radiator & my oil is fine not milky.. its only done 120,ooo km's & an old ladies owned it before me.. but anyways, I have been talking to my father about the Spirit and we have been discoursing fixing the tiny bit of rust in the boot and giving the car a respray & re-doing all the stickers. I am wanting to redo the black areas more then anything such as the black strip under the doors and in & under the guards and quarter panels

Rust on the boot that I want to fix :

Hey Lad's just a very quick little update...
got some good news and bad news
Like I said in a earlier post I was worried about the car having a blown head gasket maybe true :( had a look at my oil today and found some milky oil but this also maybe because of the cold nights (Echuca - degrees @ night) & just getting some condensation in the sump? coolant seems fine.
Good news! got a full set of SSR StarSharks 14x7! just gotta grab some tyres and we are set! & getting a RWC Monday, put it in for Rego ASAP :D
Just on the hunt to get it low. been told to go for: used coilovers, ae86 adm brakes, ae86 used power steering arms, suzuki sierra rear shocks or trd adjustable shocks, ajps rear springs and possible adjustable platforms, xt130 control arms... or AE86 struts with AE86 brakes, AJPS front end kit, KYB Excel-G shock insert, Lowered springs, New swaybar bushes, XT130 LCA's, Adjustable panhard rod, not really sure what to do i just want the thing to sit nice with out it costing me an arm and a leg...
P.s have finished the grill it is Bllllllllllllllack. looks nice, i'll update soon as I can

Cheers Dylan.

Sounds good but dont get suzuki sierras rear shocks they are too short. Speak to AJPS about getting some KYB Excel G's all round.

Unfortunately you have to go all out on corolla front ends becuase they have small diamter struts up front that wont accomodate any decent shocks, springs or brake upgrades. Changing to the AE86 struts (2inch) gives you many option for shock inserts, springs choices. The AE86 brakes are bigger than AE71 too and also have many good brake pad options available unlike the AE71. So upfront its a bit of money beacause you will need the AE86 steering arms too (powersteering arms are shorter and give faster steering and more lock) then while the struts are out you may as well replace the ball joints and bushes in the control arms or better get some XT130 corona arms or 10mm more track each side and a bit of negative camber for better front grip in corners. Will need to get new steering rack ball joints and rack ends while you are at it too.

I would go with 5 and 3.5 kg springs front and rear, will be much stiffer than stock but still very liveable day to day with soaking up bumps.

Wont get much change from 2000 for a basic non coilover setup but the difference is so good and the car will drive so nice you wont even care about the cash once its in!

Just another update, wish I was getting more opinions on the car, I have all the parts needed to fix for the roady. ill post some pictures up of replacing everything ahh also been looking and researching on suspension shit, so I am getting parts to make coilovers might use : xt130 struts & lca, ajps rca's, ajps coilover kit, ae86 camber tops, ra40 tie rod ends, and so on, I know I have gone on and on I just want to get it right so I will be using/looking for most of these parts (:

Get a ae86 bc gold coilover kit thats the front and rear sorted, for the front you still need xt130 lca's, ae86 steering arms( power steering arms for more lock),ae86 hubs, disks, calipers, cant remember what rackends im running in my 86,wheel alignment and done bc kit is roughly 1300

AE86 struts with new shocks and lowered decent stiff springs will be fine if he is after a budget setup. the longer control arms will give a bit of camber and front track increase too giving good front end grip and be much much better than stock!

Gold for sure man and please do the coilover conversion up front, it's actually quite cheap and makes the front end height adjustable, I bought the HSD coilover conversion set from justjap for $300 (springs, sleves, collars, helper springs, tophat, etc.) And then get yourself some decent shocks from ajps, I just used ae92 kyb excel g's for more travel. Then you have a proper coilover setup that you can adjust

Hey lads whats been going on with this spirit aye? well i got that smallport, in the middle of rebuilding that, got a T series diff with a brand new 2way LSD, coilovers are put together just waiting on the wilwood brake upgrade thats coming, sold the starsharks and got a pair of SSR MK2's, basically have everything for the coilovers to be put in just waiting for the brakes so in the mean time its at standard 4x4 hight but sick of it being high so choppies are going in on the weekend. but the car has been the same for a few months now just haven't been working on it really.... hahaha

Nice nice! If you are going to daily it i would strongly recommend less agressive cams and a power figure of around 90rwkw. Much easier to achieve and car wont need to be super loud. 120rwkw will cost thousands to achieve!

Looks mint mate. Fair to say it was lighter to lift than I thought it would be.

drift kid

It's three wires! Lol

Probably more stuffing around getting manifolds and linkages and shit trying to make carbs work for no gain :/

3 wires...? I'll need a hole new ecu with loom and all! Ben you are crazy ahaha

drift kid
18th March 2014, 12:33 PM
The ITB's themselfes only require 3 wires for the TPS, I thought that is what you were referring to, still be easier than fucking around with carbs and junk, do it right the first time if you ask me, spend a little more, get a nice loom made and grab a cheap (still decent) ecu, you'll love life

EFI everytime - fuel economy, nice idle, start up, midrange and not going out of tune

unless of course it is a real classic/vintage thing
