hi
new to the forum, im thinking of a n/a 3sge build for my ae86 for rally. id like to get 270-290hp from it, and a good torque reading. how much would such a build cost?and would it be cappable of reaching 190lbs +torque??As the saying goes hp sells engines but torque wins races...

Hi.

1 - Check your class rules. I'd guess a 3S in an AE86 would end up in the "anything goes" class and be wildly uncompetitive.
2 - A bloke who races an RA45 Celica (posts here and on Toymods) has got close to 200rwkw out of an NA 3S. From what I have heard it has cost a huge amount in parts and also R&D, not to mention the hours involved. So basically if you are asking prices on a forum I don't see those power figures happening.
3 - 190ft lbs is around 260Nm. No you will never get there. NA petrol engines make 100Nm per litre, +/- a little bit. 130Nm per litre is also not happening.
4 - What is your rally experience?

Have a good read around, check rules then plan and research what you want to do.

Thanks for your reply,
I ran a 4age that had 185hp and 136lbs torque in a ae86. I have started a new shell and wanted to go down the 2000cc upgrade.I bought a 2.0xe vauxhall unit that had been modified to 260bhp and 194lbs torque. Which i later sold as i lost interest.
Im from ireland and and it is within the rules to run 25% above the factory unit of an ae86.
Im curious about the 3sge and would be something quite different and thought maby someone could shed some light on it!

I would imagine over the years and all the development you would need at least 50-60k to get close to Glens beams engines to be honest. In short, you should probably reset your goals to be a little more realistic.

not as bad as you think about 30grand all upwith your own motor and ecu ,only std parts are block and head .every thing is changed

Thanks for your reply Glenn, the figures you are talking are a bit more"realistic".does that budget come close to the power readings I am looking for? If you have a spec sheet build from your previous 3sge build that could put me in the right direction?

I apologise. I didn't think that sort of torque/litre was realistically achievable. Now I know.
