Hi People,

Is it really worth it to do a Mazda rx7 caliper swap on ke70 or ae86? Is the difference in (before & after) braking distance like "Night and Day"? or am i better off just rebuilding ae86 brakes and swapping them onto my Ke70?

Please advise...

Thanx.

Motor sport yes. Street no
Worth mentioning too that good brakes and good tyres go well together ;)

As Goeff said , street , even Hillclimb good ADM OR better JDM brakes and good set of tyres is going to be fine ---- not worth the bucks to change . But if you start doing track days , 6 hour relay races etc etc , then an upgrade is in order. The more HP you have , the bigger the brakes will need to be .

Well, i have a 1uz Ke70 build in the works... will be mainly a street fighter weekend car. Of late I've been reading about brake options, and people say good things about the RX7 caliper swap.

A set of qfm pads will make a huge difference too

I did them on my ae71, tried with jdm ae86 brakes and ajpsr rx7 brakes on 15x8-4 + re002's, for street id stick with the jdm 86 shit

if you are putting a 1uz in the car then you will need rx7 brakes

the first stop doesnt matter so much,

it is the 10 after that that matter

pm me if interested

I'd also invest in good tires, if you don't already have them.

Thanks guys. I think I'll go for it, with a set of some Potenza Adrenalin RE002s....and qfm pads. That should fetch massive stopping power.

as David has said, its not the first stop that matters, and considering your upping engine size considerably it would make sense to spend the dollars to make sure it stops as well as it goes

last thing you want to do is spend a bucket load on conversion and all that and not be able to pull up before belting a curb ;)

my motto has always been "stop before go"

I'm running 282mm disc with FD RX7 caliper, MASSIVE difference, from stopping force to pedal feel so much better than original JDM setup.

If you can lock up the front wheels with your current setup and good tires then you wont notice a "night and day" difference. As it has been said previously you will notice the difference after you pull up hard repeatedly and still have good brakes.

I installed MRP's willwood front kit after going well past the limits of the JDM calipers. I noticed they were much more progressive and had much better pedal feel not to mention Ive got brakes for days of hard driving. ;)

So what's the biggest rotor diameter that could be used with this RX7 Caliper under a 15 inch Rim? 15x8 Zero offset - to be precise...

Under 15s you will struggle to get much bigger than 280mm rotors and RX7 calipers. But it depends on the design of the rim.

Definitely depends on the design of the rim as RX7 calipers hit the "spokes" on quite a few of my 15" rims while the rotor fits fine. It's a case by case basis of caliper and rotor V rim design and diameter.

Thanks KurtHS. The rim in question is an XXR 002 15x8 0 offset...

IMO the design of the 002 looks like it should be ok, IF not the least you'll have to run would be like a 5mm slip on spacer and as 15x8 0 fit under E7 and AE86 guards quite easily you should be fine.
