Going to be honest, that style of cage will do absolutely nothing. Was a stupid fad to switch the rear legs left to right in the 70's-80's, especially common with falcadores. If you want it for the safety aspect and not just wank factor I would say to run the legs down the pillars into the boot and tie them into the rails.

That cage better be yellow m8

marvis
12th January 2014, 08:18 PM
Of course.

Moved the mount for the crossbar, holes all drilled. Cage has been completely stripped and it's been undercoated. Hopefully finish painting it tomorrow and I'll start on my seat mount or do some more work on the interior.

Sound deadening is all out, filled up two plastic shopping bags.

Seat rails are done, started welding up random holes and put a few coats on the cage.

I was going to stitch weld but I might flag, I'll see.

I'll post some pictures tomorrow, hopefully floor is cleaned up and holes welded.

Such a good feeling once it's all chiseled out hey? Should look good, what colour will the floor be? White?

Jrad
13th January 2014, 10:56 PM
Nice!
What are your plans for the rear seat/boot hole space now? As is, or a light covering?

marvis
13th January 2014, 11:50 PM
Painting it white as it's factory, easy and the purple led will make it glow.

I want to cover it, like this.

http://i.imgur.com/SgXHdsZ.jpg

I'll probably put the side trim back on though.

marvis
13th January 2014, 11:57 PM
Also, what is the point of these? There is one each side under where the rear seats were.

http://i.imgur.com/50Cj2UM.jpg

Also, soooo many holes in the floor with rubber grommets. What were you thinking toyota?!

ill-minded
14th January 2014, 02:20 PM
Bolts for the rear crossmember under those plates? Or is that the one just next to it where you have your earth lead clamped?

marvis
14th January 2014, 03:45 PM
The ones beside it are for the subframe. There was seriously nothing under these.

They are welded up now along with 100 other stupid holes.

Jrad
14th January 2014, 05:00 PM
Yeah, looks easy enough, simple solution. Needs some sort of side trim/covering.
Ugly with all that exposed. Have a look

And yeah, there's always a million somewhat pointless holes in bodies.
Engine bay as well - they could be 1000% nicer in most cars, most can be tucked/re-routed very simply.

Buuuut! Mostly they're for the manufacturing side, robotic tracking, and mould release.
Plus they add rigidity, instead of having flat sheets of metal, a hole with a ridge around it is stronger, as well as using less material.
(Manufacturing excites me! I study industrial design, haha!)
All leans to cut costs in both wages and material.

marvis
14th January 2014, 07:50 PM
Interesting! Thanks!

I've filled all the holes I wanted done. Four of them perfectly fitted 10c coins and others 5c haha!

Welded up the old holes in the tower too.

My LED's rocked up. I think 5m should be enough? Waiting on my streetglow radio bar though, will use this to control them, as they can be on/off/music etc.

I'll hold off on the pictures of the interior for now! Might leave pictures untill it's done.

Defacing, destroying or altering Australian currency coins

It is a criminal offence under the Crimes (Currency) Act 1981 (Cth) to deface or destroy current Australian currency coins. It is also an offence to sell or possess current coins that have been defaced. Defacing a coin includes coating the surface of the money with any sort of material. The penalty for defacing coins , or selling or possessing money that has been defaced, is $5,000 or imprisonment for two years for an individual (or both), and $10,000 for a body corporate. You may also be guilty of the offence of making counterfeit money if you alter a genuine coin.
The destruction or alteration of designs used on coins may also infringe the right of the author of the design not to have an artistic work subject to derogatory treatment. The author's rights to 'integrity of authorship' are protected under the Copyright Act 1968 (Cth). If you do something in relation to an artistic work that is prejudicial to the author's honour or reputation, a court can order you to stop the infringing conduct, make a public apology, or pay damages to the artist.

But seriously. It's so much easier to use a coin than cut shit out. I'd pay 10c to save the hassle!

Main hoop 45mm.

drift kid
15th January 2014, 07:11 PM
Well cams requirements are 1.75" seamless tube for the main hoop (44.45mm) and the legs in 1.5" seamless (38.1mm) so that's what I would use but your call, if it all needs to be 45mm for rego do that

marvis
22nd January 2014, 04:30 PM
I drive it on the street, nearly everyday sometimes. I can go drifting and not have to worry about being caught or looked at as much. I do have police look at me heaps, but I've only been pulled over once in three months and this would be because of the height.

If I lower it and get caught it will be impounded for 90 days. I'd rather drive it on the street and not worry then have it looking cool stuck in my garage or an impound lot for internet points.

You might not know this but a lot of the cars in the era that this was based on was around this height, or shakotan. So it's pretty period correct.

What's your excuse trailer queen?

When I was in Europe I noticed how popular the all are! (I'm a fan of them, haha!)
They have some cool grills for them, that can either come with indicators, or foglamps.
Also heaps of little variations between models/what i can only assume are early/late variants.

Something for you to look at/think about if you wanted to do something a little different!
