finally picked up my first ever 86 a few weeks ago. plans are to do a full restore and build it up to immaculate condition.

its got a little bit of rust here and there but nothing really major. will need a new radiator support panel as it had been repaired dodgy.

the car came with a few goodies,
full bolt in cage
brand new bc coilovers all round
alloy radiator
razorback ecu
new bucket seats
brand new turbo
4age and t50
extractors and exhaust

car is just about fully stripped, just got to remove the fuel lines, coilovers and refit some stock suspensions and then its ready for the sand blasters. main reason for wanting to sand blast is because I don't want to have to sand the inside or underneath, and it will get all the rust visible.

how it was when I picked it up

I'll probly run the cage. The 'resto' part is really just getting the body mint. Will still do my own little touches to it, mainly wanting it clean as fuck. So will start with making a rust free body.

Nice. Have you considered soda blasting aswell? Quite a few people doing it these days. It doesn't harm glass or rubber, not a big deal for you though as you've already stripped it

haveaparty

Yeah I considered all types of stripping ways, and found a cheap sand blaster do will go for that.

Mirko
6th September 2014, 09:51 AM
I did soda blasting see my build came out well

Yeah seen ur build man. Is mint IMO. I find a cheap sand blaster fairly local, charges $200 an hour and should only take about 3 hours or so. I'll just prime it myself.

Yeah then u can't beat that man. It's a good idea does help find all the rust that's for sure. So what colour ?

How much rust does she have? Are you going to weld plates in or get replacement panels?

Hi

Have nose clips and also new front panels if interested

Cheers

I'm wanting to paint it red panda, always loved that colour scheme. The rust isn't to bad. I've seen much worse lol. Mainly lower rear quaters and around the door striker. Could do with a new beaver too. I've got replacement panels to use, to much effort and bog will be required if I just make my own sections.

Hi Craig. I may be interested in a nose clip, what is the price for a good condition one?

will start work on this soon, did a quick build on a ke70 with the f20c out of the pano, now that's finished ill start on this. think ill scrap the sand blasting idea and just get straight into rust repairs, starting from the rear and working my way to the front.

started the rust repairs the other day, going better then I thought it would. welder has decided to play up so that will slow down the repairs now.
