my Celica ST185 GT4 needs an engine replacement due to mechanics leaving the sump loose and all the oil draining out. I found an ST205 engine but want to make sure it will fit in my ST185 before I buy it. Also the repairer that left the sump open said the engine wasn't repairable. It makes a sound just like in the original Grand Theft Auto on PC/Playstation 1 when a car is about to blow up. He was saying the bearings are stuffed and shards are scattered throughout the engine, but I just want to make sure as I don't trust that repairer after what they did.

I would find a better mechanic either way, however they are liable for replacing the engine considering it was a direct fault of their work. I would be leaving it to them to pay for everything, at the least covering part of it.

unfortunately they wouldn't admit they made the mistake so theres no way I can prove it was their fault.
might as well name and shame them though so other people can avoid them - Kmart T&A at Clovercrest

so no-one knows about whether the engine would fit?

it will fit but you would need the ecu and loom to make it successful and most of the air box assembly etc as well

great, what about a BEAMS 3SGE would that fit? also would it have to go through Regency since the engine wouldn't be original?

I've found one 3SGTE ST205 engine for $1500 and a Gen 3 3SGTE MR2 SW20 engine for $990. Which should I go for? Will the SW20 engine fit and is the conversion relatively straight forward? A repairer quoted $550 to fit the ST205 engine which is almost too good to be true, they might not know what they are in for and change their mind when they see the car. The supplier of the engine said they would sell the SW20 engine and fit it for $2200. Any advice on what I should do? Very hard to make a decision with the extreme lack of information I have, help on this would be very much appreciated.
