View Full Version : Removing Sump From 4AC

Gday guys,

Just bought an ADM Ae86 last week. I've encountered a few issues since.

It seems to have a quite severe leak through the sump gasket, which I am currently in the process of trying to take out with a mate. There are two bolts remaining which seem impossible to get to. They are sandwiched behind a blue mount of some sort which is bolted on from the back of the engine to the side of the engine. We have tried jacking the transmission up for clearance but this has not helped.

Does anyone have any tips for removing the sump off a 4ac?

Car is currently not driveable- would greatly appreciate any advice!

Thanks,
Hashiroku

In my experience you'll need to lift the engine up off the cross member or take the engine out all together.

I drilled a sneaky hole through a single thickness area of the member and was able to access it through that on my conversion, just an idea.

If You've just bought an old car you more than likely will want to pull it out, clean it, do more than just the sump seal, and put it back in. Its a lot easier with it out if you are doing multiple things.

Genius!

Thanks for your contributions, guys- ended up putting the sump bolts back up as we simply could not get the final of four bolts holding the brace off. Still as leaky as ever haha.

Used D-spanners, ratchets, and 3 different visegrips-all to no avail. Ended up merely severely rounding the nut. All after a liberal and overnight dousing of WD40.

Car is now back up and running, so I'm pretty stoked with that at least!

Fuck I'd be taking that back to the shop or emailing Irwin!
