GEEZ thats heaps $$$$$$!! These days ae71's go for so much !!!!!. I picked mine up about 4 years ago. A stock Ae71 spirit manual mint condition owned by a gay guy. Payed $1400 with 6 months rego and a roadworth cert.
Goodluck with the build. what sort of suspension modifications are you planning to do?

blake.
8th July 2009, 09:39 PM
ROLL3R:

i forgot to mention suspention,

i have lowered king springs in the back( not low enough tho) and no naame shocks,

i cant puy new shocks for the frount cost noone stocks them so i might be getting coilovers. just wot ever is cheap.

Prewer
8th July 2009, 09:43 PM
^^ your not trying very hard if you cant get standard shocks.. Repco mate, or some of the sponsers on here

ROLL3R
8th July 2009, 10:00 PM
are you sure they dont stock the ae71 front shock inserts, i work at repco, i've never checked but it sounds strange that no one would stock them, though i would recommend using different struts as there are alot of other after market parts available.
Yeah and "low" king springs suck balls, they barely lower it more then the sagged orignal springs did. though king springs can custom make you a pair, though they are pricey.

Prewer
8th July 2009, 10:03 PM
^^ im at Repco also, 482 Launceston, theres a listing there, but they are standard Monroe ones.

King springs are gay, You can get springs from Lovels, but be expected to wait 4 weeks for them to be made.

The only way is shortened shocks and DIY coilovers if your on a cheap budget

blake.
8th July 2009, 10:08 PM
i went to wholesale suspention nd sum other places nd thay were saying there discontioued.

so yer im thinkin coilovers,

thanks for you imput guys

ROLL3R
8th July 2009, 10:14 PM
Just go ra60 struts if you are going to do coilovers, also i recommend using corona lower control arms to correct the camber. Hey prewer maybe i'll MR some shock inserts from your store ha ha!

Definately some charcoal wantanabees. Look so good on red cars. Thats what im going to go with I reckon. And definately do suspension before a 4age. Soon as I got my going with 4age I already had some decent suspension parts so that made it all the better :)

blake.
30th July 2009, 08:17 PM
charcoal wantanabes would deffo look good on it,

i getting jdm ae86 brakes, hubs etc, on the weekend (anyone know if my 13's will still fit over them?) and then coilovers in the front as i already got the rears done.

2nd August 2009, 08:17 PM
if you use the right wheel nuts u should be able to use the standard studs. i have a pair of wheels identical to yours that i use as skidders

there the type of nuts you need for those wheels, not longer studs, you have to make sure you get ones that are narrow enuff so they slot into the wheel as you can get different sized holes.

With the r31 diff you can use toyota studs but you have to redrill the stud holes to 14mm on the dot to fit. as nissan use pissant studs and a shit thread

pen15
30th September 2010, 08:14 AM
r31 diffs fail so hard f series are so much better the handbrake cables fit diff center is central 2wayt options are easy brake upgrades are better

but blake seriously if you are going to be an na boy get a t series if you are going turbo get an f series

Instigator
30th September 2010, 01:15 PM
VL/31 diffs have been proven performers behind big hp motors for years now, they're cheap and they're everywhere. My mate MILF's VL pulled 400+hp at the treads for several years with RB30/25DET head combo, 10.7 quarter mile, and even more than that now with the blown V8. Still running the factory LSD just tightened up. R31s 28 splines actually have 2mms greater axle spline diameter than an F series.

You boys going to Toyofest? Meetup?

still thinking bout the diff, so many options.

also on another note, went to toyotafest, meet golberg, he's a mad cunt and i love his car, won a bottle of oil in the raffle :)

and finally....
got done on the way there for speeding :( for 20+kms/h could be loosing my licence for 6 months as im on my greens and was double demerits.

blake.
8th January 2011, 10:09 PM
my brother is a boiler maker/fabricator.
i think why bother learning to weld when a pro can do it for free :)

that hanbrake cable has nowhere to bolt up to. different to a ae86?
in saying that i aam haaving hanbrake problems.
seems very tight, only goes up one or to clicks, i think on the drivers side it drags.
wwhen performing a handbrake manuver it doesnt lock, on the occasion tho the drivers sside will lock tho.
when parking on a hill the handbrake wwont hold the car and i have to leave in gear.

i think maybe the caliper need rebuilding as paul(sexy16) told me it sat for about a year with the handbrake up

anyone have any other ideas?

Matt no's a lot about this problem I remember Him saying that cal had slotted rotors on his tseries and because of this fuck up with the cable it made one side go smooth lol but yer talk to Matt he knows and I think that's why he went hydro cause he kept having trouble with his cable set up

jacked up:

i've come to the conclusion that the swaybar needs to be pulled over to the passenger side bout half an inch and it will be right, but it will be close. i think corona lca's might fix it tho.

Beau
23rd January 2011, 11:25 AM
I dont know if this has anything to do with it. But did you notice on the driver side of your OG sway bars is a different shape to the other side.

You think that has something to do with it?

You have straight rails?

im so confused by this

blake.
23rd January 2011, 03:32 PM
do you mean on the original sway bar were the bush goees in longer on one side than the other? i just noticed that then in the picuture.
does anyone know if that would make a differance?

what do you mean by straight rails?

i just drove it round the block, has zero body roll in the front and a tiny bit in the rear :)
more importantly i didnt hear any knocks in the front from the swaybar hitting the strut so maybe it could be ok, just looks weird.

Beau
23rd January 2011, 03:58 PM
Nah i ment the general shape of the sway bar. It doesnt seem to be sysmetrical like my old one is. If you dig? Look at the two front bends, different radius bends it seems.

If its working in your car, then dont worry and just mack sluts!

blake.
23rd January 2011, 04:01 PM

i currently got a 4.3 ratio in me diff now, and i have a ra40 auto center with a 4.11 ratio.

would it be worth going to the 4.11 ratio? i want to but if i do i would want to change all the bearings and reshim the lsd?

Why would you want to go for 4.11's, id think it would make it to slugish for a 4a.

Any pics or vids from twilight?
