Hi guys,
Started replacing a wheel bearing on a fwd Corolla to find it fall apart when I was pressing out leaving the inner bearing stuck in the stub axle.
I got a bearing separator under it in a small press only to see the separator fall off every time I attempted to press it out.
Other than grinding it thin and hitting with a chisel or heating it up does anyone have tips to get it off?

It sucks but yeah, grinding and chisel is probably your best bet. You might be able to heat it up, do you have access to an oxy set? Obviously you'd want to focus the heat on the bearing race, trying not to heat the rest up too much...

I have a map torch which can heat the bearing up enough. I'm going to buy a slightly bigger bearing separator today and hopefully that'll get it.
Failing that I'll grind it and use the chisel but worst case a new stub axle is $90.

Some careful work with a grinder and you should be fine. You don't need to go all the way through. Once you've cut most of the way it is weak enough to come off much more easily.

Hit against the edge with a brass punch. Works every time

Managed to get it off by heating and using the bearing separator on it. Though I'm still annoyed as the eBay spec drive shafts supplied are the wrong ones
