Hi everyone

I picked up a 1983 australia sprinter on the saturday just been.
The car has the following mods.
7age with larger cams,16v ported head, only recently rebuild,2.5inch exhaust and headers putting out 200hp at the flywheel.

I drove the car yesterday morning and everytime i hit 3000 revs the motor would shutter like it was going to stall. The car had been sitting around doing nothing for six months so after a good 3rd gear carbon clean the car was fine.

I started the car this morning and the engine kept idling at 2000revs >.< after the engine warmed up the idle kept bouncing up and down from 1000revs to 2000revs.

5 hours later i turned the car back on and everything was fine. I have no idea what could have caused this.

Someone installed a newer 86 dash cluster and nothing works. The car is at an auto elect at the moment and he told me today that i need a oil temp sender unit for the dash as my old cluster must have only had a warning light.
Does anyone know if the sender units are fairly universal?

I just went thru this on my build. Yes there are two types, the smaller switch only that I used as I prefer a light to shine in my face to indicate oil issues, not any sort of gauge that you wont notice, so knowing the switch was pulling to ground until its got pressure you just wire it up with 12 thru the bulb to the oil switch and it will work fine.

The sender for the pressure gauge is bigger and costs 110 bucks or so from toyota or $80 or so from tridon and the like. Its also on a lot of other toytas of a similar era with gauges like that at the wreckers.

I'm considering a 7age build, is yours really 200hp ?
What induction system does it use ?

The old owner claimed it to be 200hp at the flywheel when he had the motor frist built about a year ago but i havnt had a chance to retest it yet. Im booked in for a service, tune and dyno in 3 weeks time :)
I was a little weary of hes 200hp claim as he counlt find the dyno reports. Ill have a good look through the paper work tonight and see if i can find what size cams and who did all the head work. The air induction looks very stock expect for a airpod. Im very new to toyotas :p ive always owned bikes

The hunting could be air leak. Air in water system or the wax pellet is stuffed or the timing is off. Those are the "common" issues I've had

When it starts hunting idle, plug the iscv with your finger in the throttlebody and see if that stops. If it doesnt unplug your Tps and that will stop it hunting. If so your tps need adjusting

I had the radiator and all the cooling system flushed today and some nasty nasty white slime came out. The hunting idle has gone away for the time being.
The car still idles when warm at 2000revs but atleast i feel alot better about driving her around to get worked on.

Thank you everyone for all your help :)
