Should I cut out my roll cage or do I need it?

My 1uz Ae70 weighs 1,040kg. It has a 6 point cage welded in it. I know that the roll cage weighs atleast 80kg. Should I gut it out or does the car need it for structural sanity/rigidity? I'm thinking of removing it completely.

Advise please.

I would keep it for both safety and structural rigidity. More so for rigidity especially so with the v8 power and the twisting forces of modern tyres and suspension on an old thin chassis.

If you removed it you would definitely feel a loss in steering feedback and chassis communication.

You make a good point about rigidity, I'm going to try to make fibreglass rear doors [already removed the door cards], trunk lid and bonnet to compensate. I hope I can shed off at least 50kg
