Well taht was an interesting 2am maccas run.

Swapped out radiator today
went for a drive and the cooler hose popped off
put it back on
hit boost and heard a bang again, thought it was cooler hose popping off so we slowed and got home.

got out..car stalled..
started, stalled, lots of black smoke
started, stalled, lots of black smoke

started, rev'd, backfire, lots of black smoke
Started, kept at 2800 to stop it stalling, engine was shuddering and lots of black smoke

we've had a leak previously, wouldn't do that AFAIK.

B) Igniter/O2 sensor/Map sensor or something is fucked
C) Cat might be blocked?
D) Really, REALLY bad batch of fuel?

as it happened about 100 metres down the road from when we filled up (fixed the IC piping at the servo)

what has happened sounds like bad fuel which has caused ignition issues which has gone a stuffed the engine.

take a sample of the fuel and get it tested. you might be able to get compensation.

it was a bad call revving because this would have probably caused misfiring which is where the backfire came from. this can stuff your head.

having to rev it to 2800 to stop it from stalling probably means ita not firing on all cylinders.

the ic piping popping off was probably from the engine not using the air being pumped into it from not firing in some cylinders. this means reduced flow which means the air has to escape somewhere which was out of the piping after it blew off

it was running perfectly fine until we stopped and turned the engine off, then after turning it back on..is when it started playing up (apart from the backfire) there was no stuttering or hesitation when turning into the driveway.

crossing my fingers its just an electrical issues or a bad batch of fuel, there shouldnt be any major damage, not this quickly anyway

engine should be ok if theyres not ticking, clunking or grinding coming from it.

drain that lot of fuel but take a sample and fill it with some trusted quality fuel. change the sparkplugs.

if its still running ruff do a diagnostic test on the ecu to find what the problem is

well, got it running

turns out the vaccum line to the MAP sensor had fallen off...
Did that, didnt stall or stutter, but it still had a misfire

took out the plugs, and it they were black, really, really black.
replaced them
car ran fine

wait...think we have a boost leak..
checked silicone and found a slight gap, fixed it..
shit..still no boost

put it under load, can hear the turbo spooling, and a slightly grinding noise..no boost...
also can hear a rattling noise in exhaust

so fairly sure one of the fins has decided to take a vacation in the cat.. =/
