    Default oil change frequency?

Hey guys im running a 4agze in a daily, i did a oil change last night and tried out some motul oil with a drift filter. now this cost me 80 bucks 60 oil 20 for the filter.

now everyone always tells me "change your oil every 5000 km"
when i bought the motul oil mr man from the store said "oh yes this is a much better oil so you will only have to change it every 10-15,000"

this got me thinking, the mentalitly to change oil every 5000 is this a old school way of thinking? are our oils being made better these days and standing up to the task allot better than when eveyone was driving around in 253 powered holdens?

my can is a driven every day its not uncommen to rack up 400-500 km a week, instead of changing every 5000km could i stretch it out to 7 or maybe 10,000? save a bit of cash and time

what do you do? and what are your thought on newer oils lasting longer?

i still do 5000km oil changes

but i don't buy that expensive oil. i just buy penrite hpr15, which is like $40 for 5L. which i think is still pretty good stuff, compared to that of the stuff you find in coles.

theres alot of talk of how long oil lasts, new being better than old. which to a certain extent is prolly true.

but unless you have the proper equipment to determine when the oil is "stuffed" then there is really no way of knowing. so i just change it at 5000km just to be on the safe side.

luckily for me that only comes up about twice a year, but for you thats could be every few months.

also depends on how hard you drive, my dad only changes his and mums oils every 10,000. but thats in a hilux and a 95 corolla. and i dont think the engine sees more than 30% throttle....ever.....and they change gears at like 2,000 rpm every time.

however im assuming a 4agze would get a bit more of a pounding (so it should!!)

    do what you wish

but i try to do it every 5k, just so i know my engine can stay as clean as possible and such blah blah blah

im not sure about new oils being able to do the job better and longer, i would still do an engine oil change every 5k cause in the long run i know it shouldnt stuff up on me...and if it does then it was bound to stuff up sooner or later... in other words

proventing an issue before they actually occour

its a daily drive but im going to asume you do some spirited driving with it too?..

    $80 isn't really that much for 5000km's.

Suck it up and pay the price.

    Clearly TAFE pays the mega-dollars

I change mine every 5000, using a quality name brand oil. I would never increase my oil change interval regardless of what oil i'm using.
You can have any brew you want... as long as it's a Datsun / Corolla / What is that?
