    Default ae86 rear coilovers

i know alot of people have been keen on rear coilovers,
has anyone ever used T3 rear coilover kit to make up their own ? and whats the feedback ? plus what shocks do you need to work them around

you realise that includes dampers right?

i dont think they sell the kit seperatley? I mutilated my old t3 set to replace the agx dampers with trd blues. The agx are great dmapers for grip, but cant get a high enough rebound for drift.. well i couldnt possibly making up for a lack of talent The trd on 2 is WAY stiffer than agx on 8

Also the top "hat" that mounts the damper is VERY tall and limits the amount of travel the shock has. This means when running the shock at a low hieght, which isnt really stupid low, you only have a little of the available stroke, the rest is taken up in the hat. I had 35mm machined out of my hat to make for more stroke when i modified mine. I ended up with the car sitting 15 mm lower BUT had 50mm EXTRA stroke available.

if that didnt make any sense - let me know ad ill try an clear it up

nah by purple grouse car brett i believe.

the t3 setup is relatively "pov" in design, BUT does seem to work regardless.

The t3 kit uses a bolt on colar for the base. This allows for setting the height on the damper shaft to wherever you want. Then the coilover sleeve is fitted. It does NOT however fit the shock. Im assuming for cost and packaging reasons, t3 use a "standard" sleeve. I dont have the measurements right now and its late so i cbf going out now to check, but ill get em later

To fit, they simply use appropriate sized o rings slid over the damper shaft and electrical taped into place so they dont bunch down the bottom as you side the sleeve over.i used 4 rings, but the kit only uses 2. im assuming the id size of the springs is quite "standard" and t3 use a BOLT fastened spring colar. i think this is to help with longevity of the sleeve over a tension together colar, as the sleeve is floating.

The top cap is the tricky bit, but would be EASY to spin up on a lathe. The t3 ones are too long. I trimmed like 35mm from mine and still didnt have to touch the cup. They are centrally located unlike some of the cooler ones that mount the hat on a offset that means the springs clear the car. The t3's touch ever so slieghtly. I also think maybe the offset is to allow a straighter damper path, but someone who knows more will have to improve on that If you guys want dimensions let me know and ill get some on sunday

I have been thinking why not have the spring in the middle or closer to the bottom than having it at the top?
