years ago there was a fellow here in qld who i blieve managed to punch his coilover through the floor. he had however spent the day doing VERY VERY aggressive dirt drops at qr and this was in no way the only damage sustained that day.

Why do the top setups move the damper location outward? just to clear the body work or is it to align the damper better with suspension movements?

the t3 kit is in the original location, and the body mods required are much less than we do to fit most of our simple wheel upgrades

I can only assume it's because the original hole is used to mount the bracket to the chassis.
Its a vary similar concept to the TRD ones, but the TRD ones are a little more complicated with it's molded alloy mounting thingy and ball joint.
But the geometry looks pretty much identical.

The Tein Coilover set seems like a good option, I have that on my Supra and does the trick, not many people seem to go that route for the AE85 etc though, wonder why that is?

dom: nice drawing, although it would make sense that that top device would take up all the load I don't see how it could with only two gussets. unless they just locate the hats and the plate itself sits hard against the body.

fantapants: yes its to have enough room for the spring, I have seen pictures of someones shocker tube "relieved" with a hammer to have enough room, something I would never do. Oh also thanks for suggesting my products on a foreign forum.

Yes it appears to be a full coilover not coil and shock. Unless all the pics I have seen we samples of others.

yeah tein just use the same pic for all there products when advertising i think.

maybe the t3 springs are a smaller id then some others, but really, it only rubbed by about 2 mm in 1 spot, well mine did anyway. Was litterally a tap with the hammer to clearance it - ill check the id on the springs.

    also no probs sam

I am going to have a look under an ae86 today and ckeck out how much room there is, this car has much bigger tyres and wheels than mine so it will be a good check.
