    Default 4age ECU Options..

    Car - ae86

    motor - 4age

    use - daily/skidder

    problem - ecu choice

occurs/started when - My mate decided to spend too much money on his car

Hey guys, i'm posting this on behalf of a mate.
We have the 4age out of his car and are doing 20v QTB's, cams (from memory were 262, or 272) finish off exhaust, headwork etc.
anyways laying out what was going to happen, cost etc and he said what ecu should i run?

i've done some tuning (only on ls1's) using efi live, but havent done anything for a 4age. now, i no the standard ecu cant be reprogrammed/tuned but it can chipped? like a memcal?

i've researched into e-manage but i've been told to stay away from it as you can only edit a few things, where as power fc and edit everything.

as he doesnt want to spend $4000 for a new ecu, but something plug and play. so what options does he have. i'm also wondering the best solution aswell for the future.

    cheers, ben.

The only ECU that I can think of that's sort of plug and play. I say sort of because you have to build it yourself. I take it you want plug and play so it's easy, yeah?

Do you want fancy shit like boost control, anti-lag, launch control, whatever?

I'm pretty sure DIYautotune do a pre-assembled version, and it uses MS Extra which has a number of very pretty features including able to use dual vr (which suits a toyota dissy).

don't quote me but i think adaptronic are making a plug and play loom now.
anyway adaptronic would be high on the list to buy. as i understand it there isn't a readily available power fc for the 4age. I think they used to make them but they got discontinued.
microtech are meant to be good but i've never used them.
Im currently using an adaptronic and i like it!
Apparently for the features you get on an adaptronic for like $1200 you would need to be getting an autronic or motec and around $4000 for similar features!

What you should do is head over to the adaptronic website and download the tuning software for free and have a glance at the features it has!
That should help you work out what you need!

Yeah, the MSPNP are only for Miata but DIYPNP for a lot of other motors.

Adaptronic's site only lists miatas, G13B and RB25det.

Here's a feature table for the MS stuff. The DIYPNP uses the latest MS Extra code (2.1) on the far right. It has launch control, open and closed boost control, water injection, dual maps, flex fuel, and lots of other features if you like to do things yourself.

Otherwise, as cerby said, adaptronic gets high praise and someone else will do the work for you. Just fork over the cash.

Kaizen garage are making the plug in looms not actually Adaptronic. Seems like the best bang for buck ecu option and Anthony said that he can load a basemap before he sends it off

yeah definitely wont be too good but as long as you can get it to the tuners without a trailer i'd be happy!
