You know what, forget what everyone else in this thread has said.
FIRST THING TO DO - TAKE YOUR RADIATOR CAP OFF AND HAVE A LOOK AT YOUR COOLANT.
Is it really off colour? Is the level low? Is there even any in there?
You'd be surprised how often retards say 'oh, my car overheated, i did my waterpump and headgasket and it's still overheating'.
NEXT:
Check the cooling systems for leaks. 90% of the time there's staining or fresh coolant. If there is no coolant in your cooling system, put some tap water in for diagnosis purposes.
Get a torch, check for staining or leaks. Check your radiator (around the cap too), hoses, welsh plugs, heater hoses, thermostat housing and water pump.
Get a hold of a pressure tester if you can.
Still nothing?
Start her up with the radiator cap off but full of cooling system full. Constantly bubbling? Do a compression test to check for BHG. It would have been blowing white smoke and running grumpily beforehand though.
