this is an adm tank with an ae82 cradle mounted in it..... could that be my problem? is the adm/jdm tank in anyway different in size externally?

Nope, I've put both carbie and efi tanks into KE70/AE71. Fits the same.

PLEASE tell me you extended the cradle. Otherwise your fuel gauge ain't gonna do much and you'll have to keep fuel above halfish.

yea i extended the cradle so that the filter/net on the pump sits at the very bottom of the tank, if anything its perhaps a little too low as the filter is touching the base?

ok stupid Question here, but presumable fuel cannot conduct electricity otherwise the + - terminals on the pump would fry each other instantly. so if i extended the wire from the positive terminal on the pump to reach the plug at the top of the cradle by using regular solder and not insulating the joint, just leaving it exposed but away from touching the mount etc will this be a problem?

    Heatshrink it.

I put a piece of regular wire, a ziptie and a piece of heatshrink in a milo tin and left it sitting in the sun for a few months and none of it melted away. So I used the same wire and heatshrink for the internal wiring.

just to add, i chose not to insulate that joint because iwasnt sure how conventional heatshrink or tape would survive when submerged in fuel. i did however use wire off of another fuel pump it's just i had no new crimp-on O rings that wouldve been ok for use in fuel, so i took a used one, and solered it onto a piece of wiring that was prevoulsy used in a fuel tank... will this be ok? last thing i want is a bloody explosion.

ok fair call. i'll unscrew it and heat shrink the joint, cheers. will it be ok having the filter on the pump touching the base of the tank? the mount itself doesnt touch or rub...

cheers for all your help thus far, and others who have contributed.

It might fret and break the strainer bracket over time or rub a hole through it? The strainer should stop chunks from getting sucked up into the pump.

It'll probably be loud since the noise of the fuel pump is directly being transmitted into the metal instead of being insulated by the rubber seal at the top of the tank.

I can't really answer your question because I extended mine to be in factory AE86 carbie pickup height.

i think it'll be fine, the bracket or pump arent touching just the soft filter. sediment was my largest concern but i figuered that was covered by the filter anyway.

    Pics:

The rubber section was straight of a ke70 filler neck.. just cut a small section out and insert the tube.. fit clamps... done
