a 4k overheating?? instant headgasket fail.... we always wound the timing on as far as it goes so it would kick back when u cranked it over then wind it back off a couple of degreese!!!

    LOL. You running 98RON homeboy?

Overheating is a dead giveaway that your shit is pinging like nobodys' business.

Also Eddie is bang on in regards to the 4K instant fail HG

ive never had a 4k over heat unless its had a dodgy thermostat, water pump impellor broken off, blocked radiator or blown h/g,
ive never even had a clutch fan or thermofan on one as they just dont produce enough heat to need it.

8 deg. Dont worry, if its a headgasket you should be able to drive it like that for a few months

Ok, Overheating after you've made only one change which is very likely to induce pinging if not used in combination with higher RON fuel = pinging.

you shouldnt be running enough timing to make it detonate, its loosing power and torque with that much timing

and any half resonable 4k cooling system is usually more than enough overkill to cope with this

the question has been answered many times.. timing on a 4k isnt all that important ive actually done dyno testing. (sad i know)

maybe it had too much advance, detonated, and now has blown the headgasket because of this. ?

Plausible, but i've seen KE's running hotter because of advanced timing running 91RON. It really needs a bit of investigation.

my 4k i was an older version maybe from a ke55? idk, but the dizzy cap was an older from an older model car.

always ran BP ultimate 98RON fuel and timing aorund the +40degree mark. ran excellent no pinging, and didnt over heat, and yes you could notice the little bit of poke around 4k that the advanced timing gave.

but being the older version 4k it was designed for LEADED fuel, which apparently ment the head was able to deal with the high timing....
