    i just wanted to know what model hilux calipers do people use, and do the bolt straight onto the bracket and wat vented rotors are use. if anyone has a link to a helpful page?

    This is listed 1000 times on this forum, and also Toymods.

    HiLux 4WD from the 1990's. LN105 is one model, but there are lots of various HiLux 4WD models. Most have the same brakes.

    Disc is a Peugeot, I forgot what model. (It is 20mm thick, and centre hole is about the same as XT130 one). But you have to put it on the lathe and reduce the diameter down to 254mm from memory. Also you have to take 1mm off the mounting surface of the disc. Also you have to drill the 4 holes slightly bigger.

    You will have to use XT130 or RA40 or RA23 steering knuckles. This will slow the steering down just a little. If you use AE86 knuckles, the disc will hit the control arm.

    You use the XT130 hub and bearings.

    I've actually been reading through all 40 pages of the toymods thread for this setup.
    And there is a fair few calipers out there. I think the hilux model is ln106, but there are three or four different types of calipers which are used in that model range!
    there is a set with two different piston sizes in the one caliper, a set with equal piston sizes, both of which are apparently okay.
    then there is a set which is set up a solid disc! these are wide enough to fit the pug rotor.

    Once you've got the calipers apparently the disc needs to be machined to a smaller diameter. Though it was mentioned that some people grind 3-4mm out of the calipers! Im not sure about doing that though. I actually bought a set of these already put together just recently so now that i have read up on them i will have a look and see how my set were done!
    Oh and apparently the holes on the rotors need to be slightly enlarged!

    mmmm i was wondering what happens with ae86 steering knuckles! Hopefully 40mm rcas will allow it to clear!!

    With all the possible upgrades for brakes on an 86, what would you guys say is the best??
    Or is it all upto what front end geometary parts you run?
    I Personally have civic rotor + fc caliper + braided lines, never tried it though....

    yeah i think so. mainly cos apparently one hilux caliper weighs more than both rx7 calipers combined!

    Another thing i was thinking was i'm running xt130 control arms and adjustable camber tops, so maybe the extra camber will allow it to the disc?

    what is the bolt spacing for the brake to bolt to on the xt130 struts compared to ae86?

    The XT130-HiLux-Peugeot setup is ideal for Coronas and RWD Celicas. Becasue these vehicles can use the standard steering knuckles and it all bolts together. I had this setup on my KE55(TE37) hardtop, but my RA23/XT130 steering knuckles were cut and welded shorter for quicker steering.

    I also have this setup on a customers KE25, but I modifyed the steering knuckles a lot.

    For an AE86, use the HiLux brakes if they are cheap for you and within your budget. Something has to be done with the steering knuckles. Use the XT130 ones, it gives slightly slower steering. Or I would recomend getting the AE86 ones modifyed. You have to fill up the centre hole of the knuckle with weld and have it remachined (on a lathe, it's a taper) more in the centre.

    The 90's HiLux 4WD has the 4 pistons all the same size. Some old 70 series Landcruisers (late 80s, early 90s?) have almost the same front brakes as 4WD HiLux (which are way too small for it). But these have the 2 different size pistons. I think the 70's and early 80's 4WD HiLux has the 4 piston brakes on solid discs.

    The HiLux brakes can also be bolted to the Datsun 260Z if anyone has one of those, same 90mm spacing.

    The Mazda brakes are better. Far lighter. You get to retain AE86 struts and knuckles. But just need an expensive alloy addapter, from AJPS, or make it.

    I like the idea of the XT130 struts with MX63 calipers and ma61 rotors, significantly lighter than the hilux option and also suits just about all wheels
