    Smile tap and thread my oil sump

    so, in the not so distant future i am going to install an oil temp gauge. i was wondering if anyone on here has a mad tap and die set with the mad skills to suit. possibly some welding too...

    man that shits easy as pie, not that i want to do it.

    just lop the end off a piece of rod, weld it to your sump, drill and tap the center of it.

    its far easier to braze a brass fitting onto it

    get a fridgy mate to do it

    i can tap it myself, but i don't really want to buy a set for a one off use... never welded, braised once at school...

    so are we confirming that braising a brass fitting would be of sufficient strength and durability?

    brazing works fine. I did it to my ae71 for turbo oil drain.
