    Default diff pinion angles??

anyone got good info on diff pinion angles? especially for drift...

ive done some research into pinion angles and the majority of people like to have the diff nose down 2-3 degrees so under load its even, however those setups all seems to have the diff nose below the level of the gearbox.

my pinion sits above the level of my box so i cant quite picture in my head the angle it should be.

also all the aftermarket items for antisquat all lead to pointing the noise of the diff higher not lower, which goes against what all my research on what chassis tuners do.

    any ideas anyone??

from the crank to the tail of the gearbox should be a straight line, then 3 degrees or so from this imaginary line (not the road level) down at the diff end. Make sense?

fair enough but if my car is lowered (and yet not ridiculously lowered) my diff would be pointing down a fair amount from where it is to 3 deg below this line

ah I see, my bad I was thinking one peice tail-shafts. Ok draw a line from the second bearing in the tailshaft to the diff nose and then from that angle dip the diff down a little more than that. Because of this the diff may not look right from the road point of view however it should be right in terms of alignment.

Can someone confirm this or am I just sprouting crap?

these type of threads are actually starting to really annoy me.

    1. Take car for slide.
    2. Adjust one way
    3. If it feels better, adjust it more that same way until it starts feeling bad.
    4. If it feels worse obviously go the other way until it starts feeling worse again
    5. Profit

I cant beleive that people set their cars up according to all these magical numbers and theoretical measurements/angles, and then just leave them at that because thats what mr awesome said to do.

    lol.

well if I am not mistaken here adjusting the pinion angle isn't primarily for "how it feels", it's to minimise uni-joint angle and hence wear.

not only that but some people like to get an idea of where to start.

some people also like to hear what peoples theory's on certain topics are.

its not like i asked "how high my shocks should be".

i dont have a shitload of time so for me to get a basic idea of what peoples theories are on the subject and then work from there saves me a load of time, so that i can do otherstuff. i dont work from other peoples numbers but work from what people have to say on the subject. if i dont agree with what people say i ignore it and if it makes sense i take what they say into consideration.

hence the reason why i did research on the subject and asked everyones opinion before i spent hours adjusting it then driving than adjusting then driving etc

but the real problem is with people like yourself who think that everyone is just a mindless sheep and is going to do what everyone tells them to do. so you think your better than everyone else and start giving smart ass replies that arent actually helpful in anyway...

    Smart ass Reply?
How about a real fucking world reply, as that is exaclty what i will be doing when/if i eventually go adjustable 4 link.

Want a starting point? start at exactly the same as what the stock arms were. and decide for yourself which way to try adjusting first. like you said yourself, theres contradictory information out there everywhere, so its inevitably up to you to find what suits.... you!

Hours to adjust a 4link? You track your car yeh? it takes all of 5minutes to adjust it in between runs. you'd easily get a few runs and adjusts done in an hour, which should be enough to get a fair idea of where is best for... you!

Just re-read your initial post, and fair enough its a bit more of a request for general information than i first thought, but even still... nothing/no-one is going to be able to set up your diff better than you can personally by actually driving the car!
