Default modplate needed for 4age ae71?

    hi guys,

First of all Ive tried searching for rules and regulations for modplating a 4age ae71. Couldnt seem to find much over the net? Basically Ive got an ae71 with bigport 4age. Had a mobile roadworthy guy come today and said he cant do it unless I find information on whether the engine needed a modplate. I was under the impression that if retaining same engine and gearbox mounts then there would be no problem, also heard that every engine swap need modplate to show conversion was done safely. Car came factory t50 aswell and after rego in QLD. The guy I bought it off used as he daily and was registered with the 4age engine. Just after some info as I know this conversion has been done alot, any help appreciated. Jake.

why not just get one anyway?

unless you are on p-plates there is no reason why you shoudlnt get a mod plate.

it is a grey area on weather an ae71 doesnt need a plate, some say you dont as its still 1.6L with standard gbox, others say you do as you are adding EFI etc.

easiest is to just get it plated, then theres no questions asked.

I don't think it required as it's the same capacity and also engine series (4a)

You will however be required to notify DOT the change in engine numbers.

I believe it is necessary if you want your insurance to count for anything. PM me for details, I just had my 4age, brakes, fuel system, and seats put on a mod plate in a sprinter. Took an hour and cost <$100.

But legally P plates are not allowed to drive something which requires a mod plate for an engine conversion. Everything else is fine.

Absolutely, positively, definitely requires a modplate.
