In 2004 I competed in turning SA, won (equal first) and represented SA in Brisbane in 2005. (sponsored trip)
Was a great comp, bugger was though, my lathe stopped working on the last day with one part left to make (gudgen pin) and it tapered out of press-fit tolerance on final cut.
Lost marks and came 6th out of 16.

Great competition, highly recommended that you give it a go as you get to see how others work, and can swap tips etc.

Man, I wish I knew about it. I could machine the shit outta engines and put 'em back together pretty good.

Biggest waste of time trade, no money - no jobs!!

Although I do have an interview with Hastings Deering as an engine machinist, so it's not all lost. Saves me doing the second trade I was (and still might) thinkin of doing.

getting sent from hobart to tas, put up in a 4 star hotel full of tradies, free food and drinks after i consider pretty awesome..
apparently its pretty intense, there are 6 jobs each 2hrs in duration, engine dismantle measue and reassemble, transaxle, diagnostics, wheel alignment, wiring job and something else...

I just thought I'd update this.

The bloke that competed from my work won the machining competition. Very impressive considering he spends almost all of his time on the mills
