Default AE86 4A-GE no spark and fuel pump not running

hi guys, ive been trying to get my friends car running for him and so far ive figured that there is no spark and the fuel pump isn't running.

ive checked the fuses which seem to be fine, im thinking its ECU related now. ive checked and there is power going to the ECU?

there is also power going to the coil but yet no spark still?

    any ideas would be appreciated.

    Thanks, Brendan.

If you've got an O-Scope test the signal from the dissy. Without a dissy signal the ECU will not output on the FC (fuel pump) circuit, or ground the coil.

Check codes? easy enough to do with a test light if you havent wired the T port and CEL in.

sounds like no crank speed signal.. check power to dizzy and fuses and if is alright i would change dizzy. got injector pulse? checked dizzy is spinning while cranking? any oil leaking internally into dizzy.?

Is the main earth bolted down properly? You would have power everywhere then, but no run.

+1 Top point. If you've got a bad earth your signal from the dissy will be affected and since this is a relatively weak signal at cranking the ECUs spike filtering algorithms may disregard the signal.

To check, use a multimeter and check the resistance between the dissy loom plug earth pin to the battery -ve or the main engine earth, near the battery, on the chassis.

hey guys (Brendan here on my mates profile), i checked the distributor and believe that is the problem. i pulled the dizzy plug out and put one end of my multimeter on the positive terminal and the other to the plug and tested the three female blade connectors, upon making contact with one of them the fuel pump kicked in... we've removed the dizzy now and are going to start off by replacing that.

The car ran fine once upon a time but just decided to stop running so this is whats making me think that something is dead... i will check the earth also tho so i can eliminate that from possible causes...

thanks heaps for the help guys, love this community
