Fitted up one side of te cressi suspension yesterday, I found one 86 strut top, which was good, till it was bolted up, and then the rubber fell out of it, and the strut attacked me, was quite funny. That said, it works quite well, plenty of clearance to te "new" rails, and won't need too much offset to fill the gaurds. 9inch wide -20 should sit just inside the gaurd I hope.
I accuratley measured the gaurds aswell, they technically are only a 4 inch flare over standard so not too crazy. They just look it.
MX32 LCA's measure at 45mm longer than factory items. So thats 5mm over *A6* gear?
My halfcut will be on its way from the mysterious land of J, this coming week, or so I was told. I just hope I can get it before the christmas break, but it is not looking likely. The dream of 01 STi gear is over for now, unfortunately the best quote I received was for $5300 landed, and although the 6 speed is worth spending the extra cash, I just dont have it to spare at this stage. The only thing that sucks about building for the 5 speed now and the six speed later (apart from I will still pop the STi 5 spd), is the amount of parts that will need to be replaced for six speed to fit. New clutch, cross member, tailshaft, shifter, wiring, rwd splitter, so It will be quite expensive, almost as expensive as a dog set for the 5 spd.
Next step, I need to figure out what to do with the rear end, and particulary figure out geometry, roll centre will be adj, so thats no longer really an issue, I think I may just keep it simple and set it up as a std 86 rear end, with a watts link, and just a bit bigger. I like the look of these MCN rear coilovers, be interesting to find out if they work well. I am getting the shits also with being told I don't need adj shocks, they may not be "needed" but considering I will be using the car in a variety of events it would be nice to have the adjustability. A suspension sponsor would be nice too, cause fuck me it gets dear, willing to give the doors, wing and a spot on the bonnet up for some help there.
Will also be told this week, whether my front end will be legal for superlap, which I do doubt. I have made it very clear that, the chassis modification is only to allow clearance for the EJ, whether that will sway the powers that be to allowing me to enter open class is anyones guess.
Need to organise all the bar work too, bloody roll cages, luckily I have enough connections to get it relatively cheap, which is a bit of a relief, as it should come in under $2500 from what I have been told.
It is starting to feel as though I am going no where, but at the same time, foundation work (planning, parts sourcing, sponsorship) is being laid, so I am on the way forward just not as fast as I would like to be moving though, I hate money, but I hate rain more.
