OK well I now have some interwebs again so I will do a proper update, minus pics, but a good run down on whats happened, and changed for this build over the last couple of months.
As some of you know, I have gone back to be being a fulltime mechanic, in a performance shop. As a consequence of this not much time has been spent on the car, but, as I said yesterday, she is about 3 hrs work away from hitting the ground. Which pleases me immensly.
At the moment front tubs, and rebuilding the factory strut towers, is what I am doing. The passenger side rail, has been finished, and the new crossmember/subframe has been bolted in. But a minor mistake will see me have to modify it in the coming week for engine clearance.
So I have purchased a new crossmember, more of a subframe to be honest, as well as Lca's and castor rods, which marry to s14/15 hubs. All these parts what you would have seen in Magic Man's (Beau Small's) superlap special, which has started to recieve yet another new subframe, and front suspension set up. But buying this stuff, has taken all the guess work out of my front end set up, with coilovers being the last piece of the puzzle for the front end.
I have prepared everything for the "new" floor to go in, after I mangled the last one, once that is dont, the car will be finally dropped on the ground, and will be rolling. Judgung from the 65+hr weeks at work, playing other peoples cars, the time frome on this is a bit iffy. But as long as its done before december I'm not going to complain.
The cage will be getting done then, a very basic (read lightweight or cheap) CAMS spec cage, what ties in to the important points front and back, will be built by Beau (Magic Man) as well as the watts linkage in the back. Then it is full steam ahead, in a search for sponsors, parts and time.
I forgot to mention, that the car has also been measured by a professional, with the right tools, and according to Toyota's AE86 workshop manuals chassis dimensions, is out by no morethan 1.5mm. I was rather happy with this result as you would imagine. 2 yrs of cutting, welding, sleepless nights, and chopped up hands, and I have officially fluked the front end of this car.Its straight its square, and fucking tuff.
And I'm fucking happy.
