no the gearbox mount comes under the $500 worth of mounts, i'm sure the stock cooler would handle some boost fine and yeah the fuel system would be $500 absolute max.

but yes i'm personally going 4age for a daily, then there's no need for engineers certificates or anything like that i'm also on my p's. just letting the guy know there are definately other options

Getting an engine swap on your P's is considered illegal anyways, but at least with a 4A-GE it says Toyota on the motor and I doubt any cop will be smart enough to realise it's not the stock one when/if they pop the bonnet.

Not to say I'm going to get it done (as much as I'd love to) but does anyone know how much it is to get an F20C put in? From what I've seen floating around on the net it's pretty bloody pricy.

Buy a Beams package, roll the J160S 6 speed with the stock clutch, and keep the t-series. It'll take the grunt with a bit of respect. I wont be changing my diff.

But Everything Else Konakid said is truth.

I've seen 20v st motors in a ae86 go 5 years racing in IPRA completely stock internals, yet still no rebuild.
Just service the oil before every race and take care of it, had friends racing, drifting 16v and 20v reliably for years.
From my experience 4age in na form are very reliable motors.

any conversion is going to cost you a large amount of money its more about how much work you want to put in as to which way you go.

Id agree with slydar and konakid on this one, id much rather do the JDM 4age conversion (cost me 2K all up) and spend the remaining money on suspension rims and tyres.

there are so many people weighing in on this discussion, with absolutely 0 experience its absurd.

the thread poster has an 86. so a 4a conversion is easy. its also seems obvious he doesnt have a lot of experience, either with conversions or driving. a 20v 4age is the way to go. shit if after a year or 2 the 20v doesnt cut it, its really not that hard to sell the whole completed conversion for about 4 grand. ive done it before. if you do it yourself, which is within the realms of possibility for a beginner, unlike an sr, it wont even cost much more than that.

as for the sr swap. just because a decent amount of people have done it now, doesnt make it all that easy. it is still quite a large engine to fit in an 86. the bonnet will not close unless you mod the sump and firewall slightly. then its turbo, so you have i'c piping to do, and youre trying to fit a 3" exhaust. under even a mildly lowered 86, that is pretty tricky. heater pipes are also tricky. custom engine mount. custom gb x member.

sorry, but the conversion is way way harder than people give it credit for. and to make it work properly in a road car, and legal, or at least close enough on quick inspection, definitely makes it harder again.

there is definitely a few extra thousand dollars in it. not even including the diff. oh and brake upgrade, which you will need for it to be legal. or safe.

The conversions part is correct, hence why I'm mainly leaning towards a 20V since it requires the least amount of work and from what I've heard seems to suit my needs just fine. I don't want to have to be stuffing around for too long chasing up parts just so the engine will work with the car.
